Islam should be the core, its lack is what ails Somalia and Somalis. Instead we treat it like culture just as the Arab pagans seemed to have done, just because their fathers or ancestors followed something. I honestly don’t think there is any other plausible solution here.

This reminds me of that map of italian languages. Did you know "italian" as we know it is based off the tuscan language because of dante wrote his works in his florentine dialect.
These languages had different syntax and vocab compared to modern standard italian just like with the somali languages. And these mans were actually different from each other they had goths and lombards and romans and some others probably, not just "my ancestor called maxamed harti". But they didnt make tuscanoland or sicilianoland they made bloddy italy. Because you dont make a country based off an extended family

Italy emerged under the unification wars and Garabaldi, a monarchical state that later became a republic, again not viable comparison to Somalia.

Before the unification of Italy there was the kingdom of the two sicilies, the Papal States, tuscany, Lombardia etc etc.
I agree with the first point about linguistic and cultural differences in the Italian peninsula, but here’s the thing, the Italians accept this to be the case, whereas Somalis in recent times haven’t accepted this diverse tapestry they hold, everyone from the boon/aweer in the lower Jubba to the Samaroon of the north west is simply considered “Somali”.

The example with italy is actually more divided than with somali for example 4th. Century the goths came into the italian peninsula due to displacement from ukraine area and started fighting the romans. Thing about having a country is deciding how the scale should be because countries are larger than beelaha but smaller than subcontinents, so you base it off of your people and the people you get along with and exclude those you are not close to. Can be based on many things like culture or diin or bloodrelated for example or just getting along, or even just being powerful and how much land can you control. The reason why i think somali identity shouldn't be broken up like this is because historically everyone got along and its not like the people were enemies or hostile or even restricting intermarriage.

There are like a handful of Somali dialects at best and the vast majority of Somalis speak a single one (af maxa) so its not really comparable to Italy which needed a standarized langusge due to the region being genuinely linguistically diverse.
There was never any chance for Somalis to develop numerous dialects or languages because the fact of the matter is that Somaliweyn has mostly flat terrain. Geography plays a significant role when it comes to language development as features like mountains can isolate communities and cause the development of unique languages/dialects.
Japan is a good example of this. I'm sure most people believe Japan is homogenous and that is true but the Japanese language has tons of dialects due to the country being very mountainous. So unless you want to say Japan is somehow diverse then Somalia generally speaking isn't diverse either.
