Yes, in Islam, there are four major sunni madhabs, where 2 of them say dogs are haram, 1 half half nad the last one says it's halal 100%.
one of the 2 madhabs that says dogs are haram is shafi'i madhab, which i think somalis choosing it, isn't a coincidence.

Hanafi. If I have understood it correctly, according to the Hanafi madhab, dogs are not impure in their entirety. Only their body fluids.

Keeping dogs for hobby is discouraged, but they can be of great help for a man, guarding livestock etc.
