Caesar by Adrian Goldsworthy
Augustus, pax romana, fall of carthage by him as well
Have you read Mediations by Markus Aurelius. It was his personal diary which he written to be kept secret however after he died people made into a book. Its really interesting to hear the personal thoughts of a roman emperor.

we live in the best time in history in terms of dunya, why are you reminiscing over the past which was way more brutal and less glorious
The world to the average joe back then was so mysterious and marvellous. People believed in story's of dragons, Sea monsters and ogres. Imagine not knowing anything about the world your imagination would be limitless. Exploring the world coming across lands you have never seen and coming back and sharing the stories to everyone. Some people not believing you because your story are so wild. Idk maybe i read to many fantasy works as a kid and now think about these things more than the average person.

No but I have Arabian nights and the illiad.
Meditations is like 8 pounds so I might cop that when I'm free.
It's a really interesting book, imagine if we had more personal works from ancient figures

People are just running with this lol only white guys for obvious reasons like to think of the roman empire
I think about many empires and what ifs.
Adal, kush, Egypt, China and too many other states I think about many times, not only Rome.

The Roman Empire was like the United States but it made the Horn of Africa filthy rich and extremely important in the ancient world economy. You should think about it if you care about the future.

Your idea of a person in the past is a person who lives in his imagination and lives off the happiness of the illusion of his thoughts, basically like a kid pretending he is spiderman and enjoys it so much.
In reality, out of any time in history, we have the best, we can travel anywhere in the world with ease and its cheap, we can discover anything we want, we have constant scientific discoveries, electricity and technology, spacecrafts, things people in the past couldn't even imagine, we have everything we desire, life is pretty good
whereas the average person in the past, would live a boring life, the food would be simple and not as amazing as it is now, they would have less variety, daily lie wouldn't be hectic, they would only be able to contact with family, and discoveries would be rare and only done by a few people, most of your life would consist of doing the same boring things for your entire life, get everything you have now, divide it by 100, that was there life.

In fact imagination and living in your fantasies is a sign of a boring life

I’m a engineer so everytime I see plumbing or a bridge or a hydraulic system, I wonder how tf ancient Roman’s figured it out by themselves.

I think about the caliphate much more tbh

is it that complex?
For people who don’t have the info we have now, yeah it’s pretty complex. They had lead pipes and they understood how to control pressure within the pipes, pipes running through mountains, I mean some of it is still in use until today.

Kinda often. If you know history they had some legendary generals and politicians.

Julius Ceasar, Aurelian, Fabius Maximus, Scipio Africanus, Pompey, Augustus, Sulla ,Germanicus and many more.

Everything unuka leh
I only think about the roman empire in 2 conditions
Trading with somali city states
And the film Gladiator that shi was awesome best movie ever
Apart than those 2, never

I’ll bless this thread with some Roman beauty:

Imagine the Romans brought the light of civilisation to our barbaric ancestors (via conquest); who knows, we could have built upon that Roman foundation & establish our own epic empire. Much like the British & Spanish Empires.
