I figured he was Dhulabahante. Dhulos and Isaaq are the most racist, i mean qabilists who only marry each other, actively. Only Mjs are qaxboohs who marry from reer xamaar, to bantu, to sea shells.
This can mean they are a little more sophisticated(open minded) than some other somali clans who live in isolation. Northern somalis are isolated. They had few options in relation to other clans. So if you look at their lineage, this is how they mixed through marriage:
Isaq- Gudabiirsi
Ciise-Gudabiirsi
Isaq-Dhulbhante
Dhulbahante - MJ
Dhulbahante - Sub clan of Cayr CAlled Fiqi Shinni
Isaq - One branch of Ogaden, Makahil/Jibriil
Isaq- Warsangeli
So it was NOT unusual to meet a somali from the north whose somali lineage went through this mixture. It is geographical in nature.
Same went for other somalis. Each region produced a mixture of somalis drawn from different clans who were neighbours geographically.
Other Common mixture used to be:
Sacad - MJ, Omar Mohamud
Sacad - Mareexaan
Sacad - Leelkase
Sacad - Wagardhac
Saleban - Mareexaan
Cayr - Mareexan
In Benadir
Abgaal- married themselves mostly. But also from Murusade.
Abgaal - Murursade
One branch called Wacaysle who inhabits central somalia intermarried with Habar Gidir.
Wacaysle - Sacad. The lineage of the famous poet Abshir Bacadle.
