Except I'm familar enough with English to be able to read that, I can't say the same for my Arabic, or lack thereof

Because you lack on Something called Brain Vowel Guessing.

Our Brains Fill up this statement with vowels

Like Cn yu rid ths

into Can you read this.

If you brain is used to that in Arabic you can read the whole entire newspaper with out any Gaaf or Khada'a.

But in English you must have vowels or the sentence is not proper, but in Arabic vowels help the Ajami people to read, but an Normal Arab really doen't need Harakat

Dad worked for an oil company in the ME many years but idk how much arabic he knows cuz i've never seen him speak it.
Mum, not so much, just the basics to read Quran.
My siblings and I learnt arabic in Schools and malcaamads backhome. I can or could but I haven't spoken it in many years, so it's a bit rusty Markaas no xamasho ya 3yal 3aser, i can speak your xaar language
