Well Somaliland are not exactly religious people. They are more recognized as British than religious. Konfur or South Somalia are more religious. But after the war, i guess things have changed for the better

Can you read in Arabic? If you can't, while memorising read the English translation starting from Al-baqarah. Very eye-opening indeed.

I can read Arabic alhamdulilaah. Yeah I do read the English and Dutch interpretation of the Quran. Very interesting it is! The English interpretation is so much better than the Dutch one cause the Dutch language is so much more limited than the English language.

From my experience people in Somaliland are quite religious! I've never heard someone stating what you just said... Interesting... :gaasdrink:

Sorry worded it wrong ofc you can read Arabic if you read the Quran, I meant understand the Arabic. And yeah it's so deep when you compare then to now and see the similarities

I wish I understood Arabic, need to learn that at some point in my life in shaa Allah. I really think that people who don't speak/understand Arabic are really missing out, because you're able to understand the Qoran on such a deeper level. What about you?

Nope I can't speak Arabic but need to learn that soon, there are so many good books on aqeedah from way back by the likes of Ibn Taymiyyah (rh) that are written in Arabic and I feel like I'm missing out on so much, imagine being able to play the Quran from your phone and you can understand all of it :ahh:

I've been slacking in 2018 but I've been stuck on surah Muhammad for so so so long, it's my favourite surah though the translation alone touches me. I've realised the less I sin the more I retain and better I get at reading.

Do you read with Tajweed though?

I memorised till 8th juz until my sister was beaten black and blue by her teacher so my parents promptly took us out of dugsi. My dad taught us for a little while after. Nowadays I try and read one or two pages a day

AH maa shaa Allah, may Allaah make it easy for you. Ameen. Wallaahi that's so true!! Our sins make it difficult for us to read perfectly and memorize. Yeah with tadjweed of course. Reading the Quran without tadjeweed won't do it justice.

Exactly, it's mostly because parents want for their children to go. I reminiscing the same thing, it was nice to see all of your friends again. Pfff, how did that feel to be placed with the little kids... I can imagine that it must have been a downfall for your ego. Do you plan on ever memorizing again?
Hated being placed with the kids. Later on I was in classes with kids my age and they were cool. But I was really lacking behind everyone else. Didn't really have any motivation to study outside of class. I actually noticed that as well with my other class mates. They didn't study that much either. Maalcin would be mad at them all the time for not practicing.

I recently started reading again. Currently re reading first juz. Again trying to memorize it fully. Been reading before I go to bed a couple times a week
