How far are you guys with memorizing the Quran?

:francis: I only have a handful of short verses memorised. Bare minimum to pray with if I'm being honest. I always struggled memorising it, even as a kid.

Do you know why it was a struggle for you to memorize it? Do you want to start again?

I think language is the main barrier for me. I honestly don't understand how people can memorise something they don't understand. I used to memorise translated verses in Dutch to prove my point to hooyo until she got off my back over the years. I hadn't attempted it since I was in my early teens and tried again this past Ramadan for the first time in a very long time. Made virtually no progress. I'd like to start again when my schedule clears up, maybe even stay with my abti for a few months.

I quit dugsi when I found out my Macalin was from the enemy clan, man I liked the guy but it had to be done :meleshame:

My Arabic and recitation was on point anyways :manny:

Nah wanted to become a doctor but the debt was way to high so studied and came across the IBEW it’s an union of electrians and I check out the wage and benefits and it was pretty good 22 dollars my first year and it continues to go up in till I become a certified journeyman which is probably around 100 dollars and hour including the benefits

Are you from the States? It's so sad that you can't study something you want just because of the fact that the debt is too high... 100 dollars an hour, that sounds good man shaa Allah! Go get your check saaxib. I hope everything works out for you!! Illaahay haa kudu fududeeyo! Ameen.

I honestly only know the first juz getting back into reading again. As a kid I usually went to duqsi over the summers. Never honestly liked it. Mostly went cause my mother always enrolled me. I did like meeting up with my cousins cause they were there and my maaclin's were okay. I honestly enjoyed meeting up with my friends and hanging out with them After duqsi.that was the only thing i looked forward too. i would dread going to duqsi in the mornings. since i wasnt going during the school year like others i wasnt practicing that much so when i went most people my age knew higher surahs than me. one duqsi placed me with the little kids once. hated it that entire time i was there honestly.

Exactly, it's mostly because parents want for their children to go. I reminiscing the same thing, it was nice to see all of your friends again. Pfff, how did that feel to be placed with the little kids... I can imagine that it must have been a downfall for your ego. Do you plan on ever memorizing again?

These days I realized I should get back on track with memorizing the Quran and reading it again. My reading + tadjweed must be op point. I've been caught up with this life so much that I forgot about the Quran. I just started taking lessons via Skype from a macaalin in Somaliland. Before everyone is going to be like tf.. He is one of the best teachers I've ever had and he is so funny. Never thought that a macaalin from back home could be such a cool guy.

Now my question is how far are you? Do you also need to get back on that Quran life? :fittytousand:

Can you read in Arabic? If you can't, while memorising read the English translation starting from Al-baqarah. Very eye-opening indeed.
