It’s far too populous in the South, diverse and it has too many hiding spots to flush out Shabaab.

Inshallah we can manage it with a stronger Somali FGS budget but it’s not hard to see why PL which as you can see is pretty much a desert is far easier to control with its sparse and homogenous population

Our people have always protected their lands, they only lost due to superior weaponry. Nowadays the scales are pretty much even.

what we lack is unity not bravery, not manpower just plain old unity.

hence why certain regions don’t really have an extremist issue. It’s all about the fact that they believe in their statehood.

the people down south have experienced to many hardships.
They bring forward the most cunning qabiil serving representatives instead of the brightest amongst them for the task.

We can solve all of our issues just work together. However Muh my qabiil or Muh my tuulo take priority to many. Which means we will never progress. One can just wonder of a beautiful republic. In Galmudug we have Shabaab supporting clan like Murusade. In South you have Dir, D&M supporting terrorist. Then you have JareeerWeyne, Bantu, 0.5 supporting Shabaab because they have no representation in the Federal States/government etc.

With what federal state budget? Let’s be honest all the money comes from the Federal Government therefore we can’t claim to be a Federal Republic given 4 states are dependent on FGS for security with one autonomous state. We’re a centralised country claiming to be federal.

This is why we can’t just build a regional military and instead just have clan militias that come under SNA.

again an excuse, we need to do better. Fix your own income. You are sitting on the states that have the most potential. But instead you are doing god knows what.

Al Shabab will absorb all of those clan militias if AMISOM leaves, they stand no chance against them. They won’t be here forever. It’s been 16 years and like the West with Taliban, eventually they will grow tired of no progress in Somalia and pull out. Only a strong military can stand a chance. Likely everything north of Gaalkacyo will not fall to Al Shabab though.

AS is strongest in high density, multi ethnic populations and mountainous regions.

PL is not densely populated compared to other regions in the South, it is homogenous ethically and it’s mostly flat land so Shabaab wouldn’t have any hiding spots when the local forces roll in.

I have a question for Puntlanders on this section, how did you guys overcome Al-Shabab? How long did it take & did PSF achieve it & are there any Shabab still remaining in PL territory?

PL currently controls one of the largest free regions in the nation 700kms worth roads that are not blockaded by Shabaab.

I want to take some notes & ensure my state Hirshabelle goes the same route to open up our blockaded roads that connects south to north that has been paralysed by Al-Shabaab.

Why bother look far? The Governor of Mudug Sanyare has in only 1 year completely cleared Gaalkacyo and environs of Al-Shabab where before they were so powerful they killed the previous governor. You need a few things:
- Shoot on site policy for terrorists, those that support them, those that give them shelter
- Shoot on site policy for highway robber, thieves, drug smugglers (this is because they add to general insecurity)
- An efficient court system so people don't go to Al Shabab's courts
- Prevent businessmen paying them taxes (once you take away the AS hitmen, the fear will subside and they will stop paying)

There are many harmonious factors that worked hand in hand, but the most crucial would have to be a network of intelligence that readily communicated any type of useful information on their whereabouts, plans and spies, ofcourse none of them wouldve been of any avail without brave souls who were always up for the task
