Alot of practices that are done today are patriarchal I'll admit that but it's still myopic in the sense that I don't see the point that this will achieve if you're shouting 'patriarchy' to a geeljire holding his starving geel and child in his arms

The people that live in Somalia have many more immediate issues to address and by immediately I mean ones which threaten their family i.e. famine or state persecution for those living outside the borders.
Step away from the Juju, it's moving the goalpost:bell:

Literally none of that was in contention, neither is this an 'either/or' situation.

Who moved goal posts I just stated that it was borne out of patriarchy because newsflash the World up until just recently was (and still is) a man's world.

You're stating the obvious at this point and just assigning blame so tell me how you aim to deal with this issue exactly in the context of a drought ridden Somalia?

Oh, now it's obvious, is it? Yet before it was myopic:icon lol:

The question in contention was the patriarchal nature of the practice that was being repackaged as a gynocentric ritual [goalpost] not there's a famine [----->moved]

"FGM is barbaric"
"FGM was borne out of patriarchy"

This is stating the obvious.

And it's no surprise how it's easier to point the finger than devise practical solutions.

You're being myopic in the sense that you seem to ignore socio-economic factors which exists in the Somali regions. Did the suffragettes come along in the midst of a famine? No they emerged in a developed first world country with a functioning state apparatus. Somalia doesn't even have a proper centralised government. In an ideal world of course we'd tackle all issues simultaneously but what matters to these people is security and access to clean food and water - necessary things before you can even begin to address the many issues in Somali society.

Looking at the wider context doesn't mean I'm shifting the goalposts.

Literally none of this was in contention. Solution kulaha, it was a near unanimous towing of the dis no patriarchal tots gyno line, now you're talking solutions and making, might I add, observations of incredibly obvious variety.

The fact that you unironically summoned Bahal not 24 hours ago, bc you thought what? :icon lol:

If you're having a short-term memory episode, I suggest your revisit this thread from the first page, fam. I'm not arguing the obvious with you. My point has well been made.

Summoning Bahal was a joke (which clearly missed you) you then demand I provide an opinion on this as if "ban this nutcase" wasn't satisfactory enough.

I then point out how you just want me to state "it's Warsame's fault" and you then claim I utterly miss the point. Even though you were blaming patriarchy from the outset (Warsame = patriarchy)

I later on explain how it's nigh on pointless solely blaming the male gender for this especially as many men (immigrants from Somalia) vehemently oppose this barbaric practice.

I then ask you since we've atleast identified the issue where you plan to go from this mindful that there are many other complex factors at play and how this isn't an isolated problem in a vacuum.

You fail to provide any semblance of what constitutes a meaningful solution and you dismiss the context I described as "changing the goalposts."

Anyone can see the air of arrogance you display merely looking at the way you type so I highly doubt you'll pay attention to anything I mention here.

I demanded nothing of you. Nada. I simply saw someone on here who made the maniacal stance on which the practice is based without pussyfooting and distressdamseling around it, and I made my interjection on it as something that has been in contention for quite some time on here in multiple threads revolving around this issue wherein ppl objected to it's purpose, and repackaged a profoundly ridiculous myth in its stead.

Warsame, I took to mean "A Somali man", which wasn't off the mark seeing as guys on here were irrationally personalizing the issue and making as if the blame was being laid at their feet, even in spite of their own objections to the practice only for them to disingenuously lay it all at the feet women to rid themselves of perceived 'blame'. And so they argued it wasn't patriarchy, jumping at my comment, as I made my stance.

You then tried to noodle out of the point I was making, again as if being personally accused, to share the ridiculous notion that the average man doesn't condone the practice, at which point I rightfully corrected, adding the critical distinction 'in the West'.

You having called it 'myopic', returned not 24 hours later talking how obviously true my argument was, when suddenly famines and geeljires with starving children made a debut, appealing to emotion and goalpost-shifting within one post in swift, broad strokes, and then offering self-evident observations and 'seeking solutions' as if my slant argued the fact that Somalia has bigger problems, lacks institutions, is in the midst of famine - all things you will not find argument from me on, bc never will you find me at the other end of an obvious truth, something that clearly can't be said for all.

Why are you talking about what caused the problem instead of talking about the solution

You proved my last paragraph true as expected. It's natural for in the course of a discussion to cover wider topics which is what I hoped for. I agreed with you countless times in this very thread that of course such a practice was borne from patriarchy and the goalpost claim only runs true if I never addressed the patriarchy point but obviously such a discussion wasn't on your agenda as you seem to prefer the carousel; repeating the same thing in multiple threads.

Right. Here's to getting off the carousel. Good day.
