Anywhere on the coast that is of economic importance, there are Tigrinya folk. The majority of the coastline that is barren is inhabited by more esoteric/traditionalist rural ethnic groups. If you’ve ever been to Massawa or Asseb you would know that the Eritrean coast is lowkey death. It’s way too hot and arid to sustain a large population. Can you post any historical sources supporting your claims and not kunama oral tradition?

We have many archeological sites from the Aksumite kingdom, not a single one has been found in the Kunama region, also the cultural affinities of Aksumite and pre-Aksumite culture is with Cushitic speaking Lower Nubians and South Arabians, there is no similarity to Nilo Saharan cultures like the Kunama. No actual historian entertains these claims that Kunamas ruled Aksum, there isn't a shred of hard evidence supporting it, just their oral tradition.

Aksum was developed by North Ethio Semitic people, some Cushites like the Agaw, Beja and Saho lived on the periphery but the dominant strain was the Ethio-Semites, simple as that.

That map is wrong the coast is dominated by Tigres, Tigrinyas and Sahos. Rashaida literally make up 1% of Eritrea, Afars make up 3%.

They are a minuscule proportion of Eritreans. Rashaida don’t kidnap people for setting foot on their land. They are involved in human trafficking however and the government turns a blind eye to this as long as the profits are shared. If I’m perfectly honest, they aren’t “real” Eritreans either. I always wondered, why aren't Tigre considered Habesha? Is it because they're Muslim? Isn't their language the closest one to Ge'ez?
