Egyptian Female Student Killed After Rejecting Proposal, Prominent Shaykh blames death on her lack of hijab

@bidenkulaha

To add to your last point:

Traditionally , Somalis have the most healthiest gender relations in the Muslim world. Things obviously have gone down hill due to the war and disgusting ideologies that some men have become exposed to.

The reason why I say Somali culture is the best when it comes to gender relations is because we behave in moderation. We don't really freemix and we make sure we have hayaa when around the opp gender. But at the same time people are able to talk normally with the opp gender without people misbehaving and speculating the worst.Back home, saying salam to your male neighbor or colleague wouldn't make anyone bat an eyelid. A traditional and normal well adjusted Somali man isn't going to behave like women are extraterrestrial aliens.
In traditional Arab culture, you can't even acknowledge your male cousins in public. It is seen as ceeb. Also, In Somali culture, people getting to know each other for marriage is normal, amongst Arabs that is seen as a taboo. The only thing missing with Somalis are consequences and fear of the state. There is no safety for anyone, let alone women and children who are obviously weaker.
I do agree people take this free mixing thing too far in other cultures.
This would make no sense when u read the seerah, of how the sahaba acted around women, the women would walk around and men would on the street, women would walk on one side of the street men on the other, but the women were not barred off from society. The women still came up to the prophetﷺ all the time to ask questions, sometimes in front of all the men, even a women proposed to the prophet ﷺin front of him, the sahaba would talk about educational matter with the prophet ﷺs wives behind a curtain, the sahaba would say salaam to elderly women, the salaf would send letters to their female teachers and sometimes give gifts, the prophet ﷺ gave gifts to khadija RAs friends, the wives of the prophet ﷺ also would go on hajj, and the male sahabas would guard them.
The Arabs became too extreme in their freemixing rules, I do not know if it is like the khawaarij and how they became extreme in their deen bc they thought it was piety or because they thought they couldnt control themselves around woman, I do not know what it is but it is very extreme.

If this is true, why do men cry when some girls say men are trash. You've just said that in an eloquent way. Men like women aren't animals. Everyone is able to exercise self control.

A more crippling issue is that in many Eastern cultures, men are not held accountable. That Sheikh who is supposedly educated in Islam, would much rather make excuses for men than actually hold them accountable. Until recently, most Muslim countries including Somaliland freed rapists if they married the victims. In places like Libya, rape victims were sometimes honor killed. The very same fathers and brothers who you say are 'paranoid' at times contribute to lack of punishment of the rapist by allowing them to marry their daughters or killing the daughters. Can we really say that men don't have control or that society in many ways lets them get away with it? Why would men exercise self control if women will ultimately be blamed?

Its not about just educating men, we need a cultural overhaul at this point. Also, restricting women going about their day to day life isn't the answer as Islamically women only need Mahrams when traveling. Women should be able to go to the shops by themselves, take the kids to school and other everyday activities.
No one is negating the nightmare of your own family abusing you. I'm actually well aware of inter-family abuse that is rug swept.

Walaal it's about playing the odds and risk management, not what's right or ideal. See the world for what it is, not what you want it to be.

We contribute to this as a whole society when we let boys/men off when harrassing women and blame women. We need to stop pretending men are animalistic when Allah has given us self control. The issue is from mothers and fathers, wider society to ignorant Sheikhs to even local laws.

I can't merely see it for what it is, when many things can change if people stopped defending rapists. Many aspects of Eastern cultures do this. From allowing them freedom to marry their rapists to killing women for being raped, to blaming them for being abused ect. It's a complete nightmare and women will always be targeted because men can do it and simply get away with it, even if supposedly 'protected' by mahrams.

What are you saying here? Of course rape and sexual harassment/abuse is immoral and reprehensible and people should be held to account - you're singing to the choir.

We are talking about pragmatism and how to maneuver in the swamp. Would you challenge a protective mother to expand her scope to encompass the globe since " worldwide gang culture and youth violence is something that should and can be combatted through parental guidance, education, and increased resources"; or is it understandable if she restricts her boys from being caught up in high risk positions?

And why put apostrophes around protected? Are you against the concept of wali/mahrams and/or consider it ineffectual?

I'm confused here, I thought we were on the same page.

Did you know until very recently in most Arab countries including Somaliland, a rapist were freed if they married their victims? What does that tell you walal?
This is my point. I'm not singing to the choir. Men being held accountable isn't the case in many Eastern societies. Come on a Sheikh no less is blaming a dead woman for her abuse. What does that tell you?

Walis/mahrams are ineffective when it comes to this situation though. What does that have to do with anything? As a man are you around your sisters/wives and mother 24/7? Islamically women have always been allowed to run errands by themselves. When the husband is at work, who is protecting the wife when she is in her local area when she is taking the kids to school or going shopping?

I'm definitely with you. Not going long distance without a mahram, not travelling at night without a mahram is a given. But unfortunately, women are literally being harassed in broad daylight in normal areas ect they have to be. That is my point.

This happened in my friends hometown, he was telling me about how fucked up this story was.

Apparently her family, the police and his family all intervened to get this guy to leave her alone but alas, they couldn’t stop her from being killed.

Wallahi in the back of my mind I was thinking “will there be an SSpot thread about this”.

Lo and behold lol.

The least Muslim country in arab world? Where is Lebanon?

Tunisia is the least religious Arab country and is only second to Central Asia from being one of the least religious Muslim countries.

Their youth aren’t buying what Islam is preaching, sadly.

Last thing I’d want is him hacking and getting access to my email or IP address.
May Allah protect all my sisters from men like this. 🤲🏾
