( this is the typical social structure of a neef household . Neefnimo has to be completely ostracised in all families . Most of the young people in my family have escaped neefnimo because we shun it and a person who embraces such a lifestyle is treated like a second class citizen . My cousin was shocked when i pulled out my phone and told him I am ready to report his drugging dealing acitivities to the police . He knew I want joking . The next day we called a family meeting ( male only ) and ostracised, rebuked the neef from every angle possible . Long story short , neef now attends , works and has ditched all his loser friends .

It comes down to IQ, since i'm an intelligent person, i'm significantly more likely to graduate from university and be competent in the job market. How many nerds are out there committing violent crimes or breaking the law? I'll tell ya, not many since they have more to gain from following the rules.

IQ is a powerful predictor of both educational attainment and lifetime success. My advise, if you are stupid, don't have any children, or they'll grow up to be underperforming menace to society since we know that intelligence is 50-70% genetic (mostly inherited from your parents).

Since we are living in a fast moving technological information age, the dumber xoolo will be left behind quickly, and since they don't have the mental capacity to do well, they will resort to crime and anti-social behaviour.

Only hardworking, intelligent, law-abiding somalis should be allowed to have children in prosperous cadaan countries.

Work ethic and good values are much more valuable in that regard. Intelligence alone won't do a person any good, and it doesn't come with any wisdom either some things you have to learn through life experiences​

If we raised our boys with the same vigor we did our girls, we wouldn't have this problem.

The girl in a Somali household is the maid, the honor student, prisoner and the secondary mother figure. That's a lot of responsibility for a young child but it bears fruit as girls advance in life.

The boy in a somali household is a prince without obligation, a feral animal from the age of 13 (for Somali household raising stops there), his sisters superior without ever earning it with the end result being a drop-out/criminal person in the household.

If the boy just manage to get a low paying job the parents will be overjoyed while the girl can only succeed if she gets a good university degree and a high-paying job. It is the bigotery of low standards.

I'm glad you raised the issue, I've seen it in my own family and life and at my work place in the prosecution office, where I've yet to see a Somali female accused for anything more than a traffic violation.

Alright, I'm no sexist but I completely agree with Steam. I'm probably projecting my own family. But hey, I joined this prison visit programme to help somali youth (all boys I tell you) and wallahi the families of the prisoners I've met were all like that.Even after being incarcerated the mother and her entire community vehemently protest his innocence for very violent crimes. I'd like to know the rate of recidivism in our community as well, I've seen heartbreaking case of mother crying because her soon did some knife crime somewhere 3 am in the morning miles away from home. And I always wonder what was he doing there? Where are the parents? How come he dropped out of damning secondary school? And instead of owning up to the parental failure they send them back home. When you go to their homes you see the daughters raise their siblings and keep up with their studies. There is more shame attached to a female failure than a male failure from what I see.

But on another note, nationally boys are less likely to succed in academics and there are more girls that go uni. Maybe they learnt differently. Somali parents also greatly value higher education, which is a bit overrated. When I tell them about apprenticeships they'd rather the boy stays home at 19 than sign him up for it. And the thing is Apprenticeships are debt free and can ensure their success in high demand sectors like construction, engineering and electrician. Wallahi I see fobs that can't construct sentences that sign up to colleges yet these idiot don't even have GCSE's even though they were born and raised here. They can't even pull of a supermarket job.

Apprenticeships have a higher rate of employment and usually with decent starting salaries.

Also the earn while you learn feature should motivate everyone to at least not drop out.

Hi there, I’m new here and this is officially my first ever post on S. Spot. I wanted to discuss whether others agree that there is an issue with Somali boys in particular struggling in education.


I have two younger brothers, both have dropped out of college. One of them regularly gets into trouble with the law and the other spends 90% of his day sleeping and playing video games. I have tried advising them many times but they get snappy with me.


Part of me wants to blame my parents for not being proactive earlier in their upbringing – but how do you start that conversation with your parents…?


I suspect this is quite common in our community, please share your thought! Thanks.

Tell your parents to give them an ultimatum to start working or atleast looking for a job or next step kick them out the house.
