I agree that there's the big worry of not truly knowing the person with the current Somali and Islamic method but I think that has to do more with how we're carrying it out than with the process itself.

Somalis tell you to marry the woman and get to know her while your married to each other and I don't agree with that. I don't want to marry a woman I don't know, that's a waste of time and money. "Halal dating" for me is just taking a woman out to a nice restaurant and getting to know her for a couple of days. If I don't like her I'll just tell her "you know what, I think we should go our separate ways." It's much easier that way.
