i learned that people don’t get their marriages registered with the government in the Somali community months ago. Didn’t understand why they didn’t(I’m American raised so western views on a lot of things)


I always assumed making your marriage legal was all apart of the process of getting married. It seems people aren’t doing that.

I wouldnt do that......Islamic wedding and thats all I need. Keep the government away from our marriages. Even though they have tried to get in Islamic marriages lately trying to say we are too fair and women should have huge advantage instead

Somali marriages are easy come easy go. It has the bandwidth of a high school relationship

I could get married in a matter of weeks if I wanted. And then I could abandon the marriage the next month. It doesn’t mean anything. And of course, you guessed it, I popped out a kid in that timeframe too (got pregnant)

Islamic marriages are a safer bet they have religious credibility and their divorces aren't as taxing on the wallet. marriage in the west is a legally binding contract you share your assets with your partner this includes kids and income

I myself see courthouse as more practical than a full-blown, money-wasting display (but then I’m not the type that dreamed about weddings). The majority of white people weddings I’ve been to have been very reasonable, cheap, and cut to the chase (didn’t run for hours).

It’s not the ease of the ceremony that’s the problem, its it’s weight. It holds no weight, even if kids are involved. They (White ppl) really fight for the relationship before they split. They go to counseling. They try. On the other hand, Somali women are all but destined to be single mothers, pretty much from the get go.

I agree with everything you said except the maintenance

I understand child support but the amount given is what bothers me. Blake Griffin(an nba player) has to pay 32k a month in child support. What child honeslty needs 32k a month. I feel they should only give the amount that is needed to keep the child fed clothed and to basically live.

At this point with high child support payments most likely women will use the money for personal gain.

That’s why I sort of favor Islamic marriages a little. But I will most likely legalize mine.
