>like I said before the internet more specifically social media shows us the perfect curated rage bait content and without a solid base your world view can shift based what the algorithm showfs .
I wonder how many of these social media users know or keep in mind their homepage, timeline, wall, front page or what have you is not the same as their fellow users and is specifically generated for them, as part of this curated feedback loop.
I dont engage in those Sspot threads about Somalis on Twitter, but I did peak in on the recent thread, whose subject matter is some murmurs tale that took root on twitter, people there act as if Twitter is a TV where everyone has the same 7 channels that broadcast the exact same material, and so they are certain everyone on following mornings playgrounds, cafeterias etc etc will have also watched last nights broadcast and will proceed to converse from it.
How many non Somalis could even be said to have a homepage, timeline, wall, front page that is similar to a Somali? How many of these tweets do non-Somali come across and engage in, as opposed to Somalis themselves? I suspect its much lower than what Somalis are engaging and sharing amongst themselves.
This is the same thing with the whites and their echo chambers, The American Blacks and increasingly (oddly enough) Indians, in the Indian case, I was on a professional subreddit and I clicked on a profile to see his interests and sure enough, he was mostly on "Anti Indian hate" subreddits
>We should be careful on not becoming a radical echo chamber on Sspot where we perpetually feed our own flames by having posters scour the internet to find the most juiciest rage bait and bring it back to us to get dgHrunk on.(it be hypocritical to not admit I have participated on both sides of this interaction)
I have not been here for long, but I will say that I have observed some that want to turn this place into just that. I had to put one person on the ignore list and after that the quality of the site increased by 50%. The block feature is surprisingly good, its as if the person is not registered, and it is probably the same for them, with regards to me.
Other than there are really good conversations here on the political and cultural history of Somalia, Somaliweyn (I know, I know), the young generation, the old generations and their collective sentiments and predispositions to all of it. These conversations go back over the years. I have not had access to such material or people, at such ease before, for that reason I value this place.
With just a few weeks of being here my perception and hopelessness for Somalia has changed, I have found thoughtful, intelligent, well read people who are hopeful and some that had apparently no reason to keep their head down. People like Shimbiris , periplus, Three Moons, The alchemist, Khaemwaset so on and you. Some of them dont seem to be as active but their posts over the years can still be read.
>I am familiar with gender wars, race wars and so on from the internet but have yet to have a single interaction irl that displays that reality.
I noticed this too and some in their cynicism turned to profit from it, I just ignored it for the most part. Its not so much that these things dont trouble me, of course they do, I intend to have Somali children, I dont want this dark shadow over them. I am of the mind that it is through our children that we have another chance from god, that is where I will reserve my efforts.
