Do you consider yourself to be a feminist and why?

Now you're definitely trolling. You got me. I'll take my L.

I'm actually good at sniffing out trolls but you did a really good job.

If I pick an old op-ed article from a major Saudi newspaper in favour of the woman driving ban.

Is that representative of Islam?

Same logic.

None of these are old. These are very recent articles. Also, no it's not the same because Islam is based on the Quran and the sunnah. Its doctrines are set in stone and unchangeable. Feminism is a movement with doctrines that change constantly.

Another thing is Islam was revealed from God and infallible. Feminism doesn't have the same status- it's something made up by humans. Islam and feminism are not the same.

No, it’s a field of study with a very clear definition:

No one said feminism and Islam is the same.

What I’m saying is that your focus on the negatives of feminism is similar to the people who focus on terrorism, which is a negative stain on Islam.

Both terrorism and what you’re citing as feminism stray from the aims of Islam and feminism respectively.

I was posting from probably one of the most popular feminist sites in the world. It is not a fringe site. Muslims don't need any ideology that isn't Islam. Islam is from God and infallible. Feminism doesn't have that same status. And the way that you're defending feminism you could just as easily defend Marxism, saying the USSR "wasn't real communism".

is it haraam to criticize feminism? is it makruh? it is neither- it is perfectly permissible to criticize feminism. criticizing Islam, attacking Islam is haraam. it is perfectly fine to criticize feminism, feminism does not merit that same protection.

Yes, the USSR wasn’t real communism. That doesn’t mean I support Marxism but I would be an idiot if I used that to represent the entirety of communism.

Muslims don’t need any ideology but Islam, true. But wouldn’t you argue that being anti-racist is an ideology. It has similar aims to feminism, with the difference being race instead of gender.

Is being anti-racist incompatible with Islam?

No, because being anti-racist goes in line with the quraan and the sunnah, unlike feminism.

Islam believes that men and women have similar and different roles that balance out. As a result, both are equal.

This is the definition of feminism:

is the google definition some sort of divine revelation? some person can say Marxism was "a movement fighting for the rights of workers". maybe that's what they claim but the actual ideology in practice is a bit different.

pretty much everyone here lives in the West. we see feminists promoting stuff like abortion and "sexual liberation". they've been promoting such things since at least the 60's.

there is zero obligation on any of us to say we are feminists. if you say "the feminist movement that actually exists is NOT REAL FEMINISM" and "real feminism" is the abstract definition from google, I guess you can say that but none of us have any obligation to ascribe ourselves to that ideology and to call ourselves feminists just because you want to. there is nothing obligating us to do that. if I make up a new ideology I call "Omardelsurism" and I say the official definition is "omardelsurism holds that murder is bad", I can't say you have an obligation to call yourself an omardelsurist and if you refuse then therefore you are pro-murder.

You can claim "Real Feminism" is the google definition but the rest of us are perfectly entitled to look at what it actually is in actual real life and to avoid it like the plague it is.

I advice everyone here, especially the women, to not label themselves as feminists or ascribe to feminism or any other type of ideology that is not islaam. We are muslims, we obey Allaah and his messenger scw and islaam is our religion. We are in no need of any man-made ideology, whether it be feminism, nationalism, communism, liberalism, capitalism, you name it. Everything that goes against the quraan and the sunnah is falsehood and we reject it.

as I mentioned before, Jezebel is one of the most popular feminist websites. but apparently, you are both a male feminist and a staunch defender of feminism... and apparently you consider Jezebel, one of the most popular and mainstream feminism websites as Not Real Feminism.

so I am just curious- who do you actually consider as Real Feminism in real life? Simone de Beauvoir? Betty Friedan? Gloria Steineim? and since the 60's- no easy mode by picking the suffragettes. from 1960 or later- who specifically do you consider as representing Real Feminism? actual name or names. or does Real Feminism not exist beyond the Google definition you cite? and books (1960 or later)- what books do you consider as representative of Real Feminism? or does Real Feminism not exist outside of yourself and the google definition?

1. Yes, the definition of something generally is the meaning of that thing is

2. Abortion and sexual liberation are a small part of the feminist movement. Stuff like equal pay, ending sexual harassment etc is much more important.

3. Are you really arguing that we shouldn’t believe the definition of feminism because there are people that act differently?? Replace feminism with nearly any other movement and surely you’ll see the hilarity of that statement.

4. That’s like saying “you can say that the Quran is real Islam but the rest of us can look at what is actually in real life which is Al-Qaeda and ISIS”.

1. Never said I was a male feminist or a staunch supporter of feminism. I said I support the movement of feminism based on the scope of its definition and how it relates to Islam.

2. I could name a series of Muslim feminists in Muslim countries that are striving for equality and rights afforded to them in Islam.

Let me know if you want that list.

According to feminism, males and females should be 100% equal in all matters, and that goes against our religion. For example, one male witness is the same as two female witnesses, but a feminist would say that they should be the same.

“…And get two witnesses out of your own men. And if there are not two men (available), then a man and two women, such as you agree for witnesses, so that if one of them (two women) errs, the other can remind her…”

[al-Baqarah 2:282 – interpretation of the meaning]

In our religion men are required to provide for their wife and children, women are not.
In our religion men are allowed to marry 4 wifes, women are allowed to marry 1 man.
These are just a few examples, i could keep going but I'm sure you understand what I mean.
Also sons inherit twice as much as daughters in Islam.

just to illustrate what I mean

I wanted my son to reject masculine stereotypes. Then he fell in love with tractors

All my life, I’ve prided myself on blurring gender lines. But when my young son started to gravitate toward the very things I’d shunned, I wasn’t sure what to do.

this is weird and this is not from Islam and this is not "upholding rights of women". "upholding rights of women" doesn't mean whatever this weird stuff is.
He’s angry that his son is following his fitrah and becoming a man, but he would be happy if his propaganda led to his son wearing a dress and deciding to identify as a woman. Not surprising, the article says he’s a stay at home dad LOL.
