We gave up our traditional monotheistic religion, we have preserved our language, culture, but Islam was just compatible with our belief systems, it's not like we imported a foreign culture, it was foreign for Arabs aswell, we got it right at the beginning and molded it to our culture in it's purest form.

Understandable but why couldn't we hold onto our traditional names and script (osmanya and wadaad)
Most Somalis still have Somali names, Also i read that before they settled on Latin they had a committee created to see what script would suit the Somali language better. The scripts they were choosing between being Wadaad, Osmanya, and Latin. There was an issue with how Osmanya made four common sounds in Somalia into two letters. There were also issues with Wadaad but I forgot what they were. also if arabs so influenced Somalia shouldn't we have chosen Wadaad, considering its based on Arabic? your own question invalidates your argument.
Osmanya is recent, even the Gadabuursi script is older, and the wadaad script is based on Arabic from the 10th century.
We have held onto our Somali names, it's just recently that there been abundance of Arabic due to the collapse of the Somali state.
no kaafir accusations im simply trying to give a reason as to why it may be the case, no idea tbh i think somalia was a modereatly muslim nation up until the 90s when the war happened and after it became a lot more muslim, this tends to happen when hardship arises also of course you have high religiosity before the civil war but again we were not developed or industrialised, 99 percent of the world has always been deeply religious only in recent times when the world has developed has religious piousness.
I think because of the other ethnicities you mentioned Turks, Indians muslims, Yorubas etc live alongside non Muslims.
In Turkey there's a small Christian minority (Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians etc). Plus Turks was always secular.
Indian Muslims are a significant minority in a Hindu majority country.
Yoruba as an ethnicity themselves are split 60/40 Muslim majority, plus they live in Nigeria, which is split between Muslims in the North and Christians in the South.
Somalia is 100% a Muslim country, it's also a homogeneous country. Unlike other counties there isn't any other (significant) ethnicities in Somalia.

All the other groups you mentioned have coexisted with people vastly different from them for a long time.. All the way from religions to languages and even ethnicities which is why they're more open to being irreligious. We, on the other hand, have never dealt with such diversity. Islam is one of the few things that truly unites us, which is why it's so deeply ingrained in our Soomalinimo and why the two are pretty much interchangeable
Yes in the modern sense (which to be entirely honest, promotes secular discourse and detachment from religion) but in the medieval and early modern times, religion was seen as a more important identifier than ethnicity. u had christian europeans enslaving other non-christian, pagan europeans and seeing them as outsiders, while trying to establish diplomatic relations with faraway christian lands exactly for this reason. there's even early demographic counting in some of the colonies where groups are ordered by "jew", "mohammedian", "hindoo" and so on but of course the growing importance of race science which was backed by enlightenment era ideals made sure that race eclipsed the significance of religion in the upcoming modern age. nationalism was seen as a recent invention and a threat to religious identification by some european scholars. i admit i'm muddy on arab history so i would like some clarification but i believe it was there in asiatic societies.
Honestly, I see religion as more important than ethnicity, ethnicity/language second, then general race. It changes how you see yourself, what your worldview is built on, what your morals are, and so on. Now, I do think piety and sects vary depending on ethnicity, which would modulate things.
nationalism is one step to apostasy. like 99% of people unhealthily obsessed with their race online are atheists, agnostic, or almost there. the whole basis of modern nationalism was built on westerners going like "hey maybe this religion thing sucks and genetic race is more important" during the ""enlightenment"" age lol
unfortunately, their ideology is very misanthropic, self serving, and nihilistic.
You ultra nationalists are something else. I'd be embarrassed to consistently try to measure up my nation to religion. Especially a failed state like Somalia.
