person AKA Somali. When people hate crime you they will be more likely to call you Somali-catered insults than muslim ones. When other muslims are cunsuri, they don't see your Muslim identity first, they see that you're Somali first.

Religion can be hidden but not ethnicity.

My main argument here is: Islam is your personal identity/belief but Somali is who you are to outsiders unless you're visibly muslim (hijabi)

Turks took Islam seriously before Atatรผrk came in and secularized the country in harsh conditions; some Turks would flee to Kurdish areas because of this. Somalis were becoming secular, especially in larger cities, due to the said Barre government, but he was overthrown, and things like the ICU followed. Also, African groups like the Yorubas are mixed. In Nigeria, they're the only group where they have an almost even split between Islam, Christianity, and African spiritualism. Somalis don't have a large part of them believing in something else. When a large part of your people follow a different religion, your going to have more irreligious people for the sake of ethnic unity.

Not all Somalis can agree on some of the stuff you mentioned. Go to Kismaayo and ask a man what's cambaabur, he will look at you confused. Same with languages, have you ever heard people who speak af mushunguli, dabarre, barawe etc Somalia has a bunch of different cultures not everyone talks as if they're from mudug and does dhaanto lol

You can't be somali first, Islam is the religion of ALLAH (SWT) and it is HIS will that matters first and foremost.

Infact you should understand our culture was a gift from ALLAH (SWT), so you are not giving it up when you put Islam first.

"O humanity! Indeed, We created you from a male and a female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you may หนget toหบ know one another. Surely the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among you. Allah is truly All-Knowing, All-Aware."

Surah 49 "Hujurat" ayah 13

This ayah makes it clear we were made different across the world, as well as into two genders, so we know one another.

The only thing that can elevate us is Islam though.

Somalis were important in world history since the bronze age, appearing on maps across the world, but its quite clear the apex of somali influence and power was during the Islamic period.

Somali muslims spread Islam in asia, conquered far off lands like madegascar, built wonderful buildings, and were very famous in the Islamic period.

This is because when you put ALLAH (SWT) high in your priorities, you are given a great bounty, and it is through this that the somali people can become great again.

Do not forsake your faith or you will find our honor will disappear, look at the state of people like the secular parts of arabia, they lost more of their culture in pursuit of materialism and nationalism, Islam preserves the culture.

Our culture was robbed by the colonial governments, during the Islamic period we had the culture people love to discuss on this site!

Ummah is not finished its just in a very bad state right now. the prophet himself predicted the downfall of muslims. Thats how people felt before salahuddin united the ummah together. Then it was mehmet the II and possibly now someone else in the future or imam mahdi.

Islam for somali's is a good thing tbh I wouldn't want us to have stayed pagan. also arent you the guy who said he didn't care about the genocide in Gaza? I'm an atheist but I don't hate Islam or arabs. some irreligious people really have an inferiority complex.

Of course Islam is the best thing to happen to somalia, but I would like to say we shouldn't use the word pagan for pre-islam somalis.

Somalis were on a monothiestic faith for as far back as recorded history goes, So we weren't pagan we were on a corrupted version of monothiesm, that faith was basically diet Islam minus most of the details.

It most likely came from a prophet in the area of east africa a long time ago, white historians say the faith was from the stone age so its unlikely such a religion would last that long as a monotheistic faith without prophets coming to maintain the monothiesm.

Especially when you consider the rest of africa and arabia were on paganism.
