China has passed a new law that seeks to "Sinicize" Islam within the next five years, the latest move by Beijing to rewrite how the religion is practised.

China's main English newspaper, Global Times, reported on Saturday that after a meeting with representatives from eight Islamic associations, government officials "agreed to guide Islam to be compatible with socialism and implement measures to Sinicize the religion."

The newspaper did not provide further details or the names of the associations that agreed to the decree.

China has embarked on an aggressive "Sinification" campaign in recent years with faith groups that were largely tolerated in the past seeing their freedoms shrink under Chinese President Xi Jinping, China's most powerful leader since Mao Zedong.

Practising Islam has been made forbidden in parts of China, with individuals caught praying, fasting, growing a beard or wearing a hijab, a headscarf worn by many Muslim women who feel it is part of their religion, facing the threat of arrest.

According to the UN, more than one million Uighur Muslims are estimated to be held in internment camps where they are forced to denounce the religion and pledge allegiance to the officially atheist ruling Communist Party.

Rights groups have accused China of engaging in a campaign of ethnic cleansing. In August, a Washington Post editorial said the world "can't ignore" the campaign against Muslims.

Islamic crescents and domes have been stripped from mosques, and according to the Associated Press news agency, religious schools and Arabic classes have been banned and children barred from participating in Muslim activities.

China has rejected the criticism, saying it protects the religion and culture of its minorities.

However, in the past week alone, authorities in China's Yunnan province, which borders Mynamar, have closed three mosques established by the marginalised Hui Muslim ethnic minority, the South China Morning Post has reported.

So they only protect the religion and culture of the minorities if it's controlled and authorized by the Communist party.

What a shithole place to live in.

May Allah help the Muslims in China!

What did you expect? China has a completely different worldview and stance on religion and ethics. Their plan to develop a perfect socialist state is above all else, and by subjugating minorities they can facilitate this dream for the greater good. Islam and religious groups are potentially destabilizing forces in the eyes of the Chinese state.

How's it a nice move for them to treat minorities like trash.

They are socialists and hate religions. They adapt religions into the China's culture.
Nice though, it's their country and islam or whatever religion should be regulated, controled by them.

Since the Chinese have relaxed Laws regarding religion, Salafism spread like wildfire in China and many were radicalised in the 1990's. 22 Chinese Uyghur Muslims were captured fighting for Al-Qaeda and detained in Guantanamo Bay. They've been all released and found not to be a threat to the United States and they were settled in Slovakia. The Chinese government criticised the Obama administration and the Slovakian government for accepting wanted Chinese "terrorists" by China. Meanwhile, the Takfiri elements of the Salafis (Second generation Salafis) divided the Chinese Muslims in East and Central China for many Muslims to seek government intervention and president Xi Jinping who came to power in 2013 as a hardliner against all faiths was happy to oblige to their demands and was rewarded to manipulate the situation and vowed to bring Islam in China under control. Political power is utilizing such opportunities.

My point is for you and others to understand who is leading China and the opportunities bestowed to him by the Salafis.

Is it true if I say that you would've favoured China to have it's own ISIS destruction that also inflicts pain and suffering on their fellow Muslims because they don't regard them as Muslims. You will support ISIS as fellow Muslims because China are "kafirs" at war with Muslims?

Stop throwing mud at me. I stated some facts. Challenge them and cease getting emotionally and physically hurt when Salafis are mentioned in a negative light.

Is there any Muslim country that dares to criticise China including Sultan Erdogan, Dr Mahatir or Joko Widodo? They know the Saudis polluted the Chinese Muslims and worry about the damage they caused in their own turfs. Why would I?

You don't want to know how it got up to this situation? But you wouldn't have a problem if the radicals got the upper-hand and oppressed the non-Muslims? I do hate all kinds of oppression, but yours (many here too) seems to be reserved only for Muslims even if the oppressors are terrorists and their victims are non-Muslims.

Weren’t you sticking up for that Arab getting her ass beat by some white girl? I thought you hated bullies Aussie. Putting thousands in internment camps counts as worse than bullying right?

@CaliSomali

I just mentioned I hate all kinds of oppression and here you are quicker than a tekniko wanting to hijack me. You are barking at the wrong tree.
