Poverty contributes to the disfunction yes, but Liberalism in the sense that women should have equal rights does not. Do you believe since becoming more conservative Somalia has made the lives of men and women better?Absolutely nothing you wrote has anything to do with wahabism or the pathetic state of the Somali community. This Salafi/"Wahabi" slander is just another fat cope completely detached from the reality on the ground.
Gender wars are a symptom of community dysfunction, poverty and liberalism. Somalis suffer from all 3 and therefore have the worst inter-gender issues.
I wasn't saying having control of your family is good or bad - and it absolutely is good. I'm just saying they don't.
Wahabism is oppressive to women. It is an idealogy that was promoted by the British in order to take influence away from the Ottoman empire. It was made specifically to make it easier to create radical groups that would help destabilise countries and uphold western imperialism. Wahabism is not conducive to a healthy society. It promotes extreme thinking and will never allow for healthy debates on economics or social issues that help provide stability to a country.
