The AU and its predecessor the OAU have existed longer than the EU and haven't even implemented free movement after close to 4 decades, only a signed agreement a few years ago. Western Europe has had more than one civilization that united its land, they are a very different case. At best I see African countries forming regional blocs starting around 2050 and not a moment sooner. A centralized AU is as likely as Somalia landing a man on the moon literally tomorrow evening.
Wrong the EU's predecessor the EEC was created before the OAU.
So you're saying Europe is more cohesive than Africa? Yes I agree
Now I want to be balkanizing rival African states, you see an economic deal right now, I see instigating civil wars and then rising as the dominant power in the Horn as a unified Somalia. Any regional integration plays into Ethiopia's hands. It sees Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia as it's backyard currently.
Trade is something I support personally and east african version of NAFTA would be brilliant but that's as far as I'd go in the short term (30 years). No restrictive political entanglements because Somalia needs to look to the Indian Ocean as well. China, India, and South East Asia are all in view and with rapidly growing economies.
You might define Pan-Africanism differently but your fellow comrades see it this way
