Not a bad post. Too many people going to college. Some people are naturally better at reading, writing, and deep thinking than others--they should always go to university and should study the liberal arts if they like. Most people are not like this and should think about becoming a plumber or electrician or some other trade, as they will either fail college or only narrowly graduate and struggle to land a job. Nothing wrong with people taking different paths. Shanta farood ee gacanta ku wadayaala ilaahay muusan simin, in other words--diversity is part of life.

What actually screws people is not so much the degree, but financial illiteracy, ie, not figuring out the payoff of some of the degrees they’re racking up debts for in future earnings, but that’s not to say liberal arts degrees, and classes especially, shouldn’t exist like some people say.Not a bad post. I still think they should exist, and that people should be taking those classes in undergrad if they’re pursuing STEM. Students are taught critical thinking in the humanities and certain science courses like physics, but many other science and pre-med courses are actually rote memorization, so liberal arts are not without its value since they expose us to problem solving and critical thinking.
Trades is good for some, those who’re not so good in school definitely, but I think a society without its intellectuals would be a disaster, not that trades would be attractive to those types of people to begin with.
Automation as of right now is only good for repetitive, simple tasks like taking orders word for word from a customer (which people consider miserable work anyway), hence kiosks and self-checkouts popping up everywhere so businesses can improve their bottom line with a machine that needs minimal maintenance instead of a human being who needs pay and benefits. Another example of that is capping lids, or simple assembly line type robotics. The problem is everyone wants to be an intellectual nowadays having an easy well paid job. It is not realistic.
I fear the days to come, when digitalization, electrification and automatization has rationalised 90% of the jobs that currently exist.
Tradee is a boring job which you will pay for as you age
Stem fields are the way to go and you will make 100s of thousands of dollars.
If you're taking General Business, then yeah that's not really useful.
But specializing in Accounting or Human Resources is specific enough that you'll find work if you look hard enough once you graduate. Those are decently good careers.
Many Somalis I know have taken that route and are doing good.
It’s because of schools in the UK framing it as you’re a failure for not going to university, which shames people from doing vocational courses, trades and apprenticeships, despite the fact that’s it a solid career choice.
I really wanted to do an IT degree apprenticeship, but my family hounded me to instead study medicine abroad. Now my friends who did an apprenticeship are earning £21,000 a year at 18 with a guaranteed job and free degree after 3 years and I’m in Döner land.

Im into tech engineering, which we need the most
I want to innovate new things for our community for example motor engineering with Somali brand names
Introduce these vehicles and replace toyatas and land cruises plaguing the somali landscape
I just haven't met any somalis with the same ambitions and Im certain they dwell somewhere on this earth and not a parallel universe
When I see a successful somali like yourself
A lot of us are motivated
What’s the tea? How did u met your potential second wife?
Lol didnt your wife gave birth a month ago?
Most Somalis get by on much less. You can’t assume the other spouse isn’t working. They’re probably making good money.Maybe you should wait until you hit 200k before considering a second wife, 60k for two families living in London sounds like poverty to me
