Being flat and having vast arid land doesn't remove the diverse landscape we have. I'd never trade having the longest coastline in Africa for the somewhat green land of Ethiopia (excluding the Somali inhabited eastern regions).

Speaking of Ethiopia, even if they occupy part of our land; it's doesn't remove that those very same land are very blessed as well.

In the Futux it is noted that some area named "Jalbi" between Bale and proper Somali territory was under Somali control at one point:

So it seems some sort of Somali presence was there but that it was ever truly, fully ours is a dubious claim to make.

I personally suspect that before the Oromo expansion Eastern Ethiopia (west of Galbeed) was basically mostly Sidamic and Somali with some Southern Ethiosemitic (Harari-Gurage types) presence.
