People don’t seem to understand that Islam has become intertwined with somalis, the history before our conversion to Islam is pointless to bring up because cultures change. I doubt there were any pagans in Somaliweyn in the 1500s, even in the baadiyo so we can safely assume 99% of somalis were muslim for atleast 500 years.
A community of atleast 5000 of non-muslim somalis doesn’t exist anywhere in Somaliweyn or matter of fact in the horn and adjacent areas. Few secret murtads don’t count. There is no comparison we can make, like with the oromos who have multiple faiths and are connected by their own culture. The rendille people contrary to the popular believe were not driven out by other somalis due to not accepting Islam but rather they were cut off by oromos and thus remained pagan. They too would have become muslims like the rest of somaloid people.
People are arguing semantics on this issue need to face reality. You can’t be among somalis if you are gaal, it simply is unacceptable. Somalis are ethnoreligious due to the fact we define ourselves as muslims with also our ancestry. Textbook ethnoreligious group.
