Attorney General of Galmudug, Abdiasis Nur Hussein has on Sunday instructed the police to arrest people who cut trees for charcoal

Good. These people are causing so much damage to the environment. . The best way to punish them is to seize their vehicles.

Next should be a mass tree planting campaign and expanding these projects so land can heel from grazing
Remember that planting trees doesn't always solve the problem, should be done where the soil hasn't undergone so much damage that it's practically nigh impossible. You have to also have, the management of the newly planted trees. Cause there are number of them won't make it.
Best way for it to be successful is making those commercial charcoalers to plant the trees themselves and enact a quota of maximum weight. proper strict licensing regulations need to be set up for it to be long term viable.

6 years and 50K is that in $ or Shilings?

Why not instead of the prison, they can be sent on a tree planting campain, an electronic tag can be put on them if they decide to take their chances in baadiyo.
So they can calculate the number of trees needed to plant by, taking into account how many trees they cut down, and use that to calculate how many trees they would have cut had they been left unabated for the number of their sentenced years. Then make them plant those number of trees and IF there are courses in land management they should be incentivised to take such courses. because majority of the civilians that are doing the charcoaling are looking to make ends meet, if they're punished harshly for it, it's not going to give them enough trust in order to participate in society, so education is better at first. IF they are persistent then f*ck it, sent them to the dungeon and throw away the keys (figuratively)

Dollars lol, looks extreme but it might be targeted at the big profit makers.

Yeah I assumed that too, they should have little addendums for normal civilian folks, cause that was what my post was geared towards to
However if it's commercial ones then yeah my Last statement stands for sending them to the dungeons. With now in todays world, it's very easy to keep track of things electronically, Road chokepoints, the maximum weight threshold too, and electronic licenses. so this can be easily viable in that state.

And that prison sentence should be aimed at the company directors and you'll see how quick the illegal trade dies :pachah1:
