I hear young Somali girls saying. 'a Muslim woman needs a mahram to travel', is this what they want to be?
@AussieHustler if we are going to create a somalia that unifies is, we can’t copy the Western or Middle Eastern model. We need one that works for everyone not just a few
@Knowles
So far, the Middle Eastern (Saudi) model is winning. A 14 year old boy in charge the choices of his professor mother. An adult woman treated like a minor, @Suldaanka and @Crow will quote the Hadiths for you to justify it.
Watch the documentary.
If you know there are hadiths about mahram. Why question the religion of 100 percent of somalis. Why divert us from our path@Knowles

Aussie I can’t watch it because i am ambivalent when it comes to the rights of Saudi women or any other Arab for that matter.
But all other races, practices like these are wrong and I’m sure @Crow will join me in condemning this. @Suldaanka i don’t have any hope for.
That girl posted a bacon pic and an alcohol( she is a minor ...) Pic to spite her family.
What I find weird is that there are 80 million refugees inline most in warzones yet she jumps the que? A girl who can afford holidays around different nations and had went to university...
Mahram is something the Prophet pbuh spoke about and prescribed for the Ummah. It will never be changed
Why do you want somalis to leave their religion and culture. Who pays you to talk shit.@Samaalic Era
Thanks Sxb, in that case, can one say that an illiterate Muslim man (guardian) will make all the choices for a well educated Muslim woman? Or, are you missing to put in contextual, for example, it wasn't safe for a woman at that era to travel on her own?

Travelling for women, whether in the past or today is dangerous. Even as man , travelling alone can be dangerous let alone a woman.
I don’t think so. My mother traveled last summer to Somalia alone and there were no talk about a mahram. I think it’s more of Saudi think.. but allahu alamI hear young Somali girls saying. 'a Muslim woman needs a mahram to travel', is this what they want to be?
I don't think it was , her story seems sketchy. She was the daughter of a rich family who openly had non-muslim thoughts , this would be instant death to others. She also went to college alone and went on frequent holidays.
Islam is perfect. Everything people disagree with doesnt mean its a suadi thing. The religion is complete. Second Nabi Maxamed scw was illiterate.@Suldaanka
Let us be clear here, mahram is a Saudi (salafi) culture and not many other Muslims practice. Check with the Indonesian and Malaysian Muslims, the overwhelming majority don't practice this custom.

Not to mention she had enough money to go to Thailand, I think she just wanted to be free. She is now free and famous, she will be the new Ayan Hirsi.
I totally agree that is Islam is perfect, but that doesn’t work for me. How is a woman supposed be a functioning human in a society?Islam is perfect. Everything people disagree with doesnt mean its a suadi thing. The religion is complete. Second Nabi Maxamed scw was illiterate.
Muslim (1339) narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allaah and the Last Day to travel the distance of one day, except with a mahram.”
Just find it odd , there are much more people in need.@WarsanBarsan
You can't blame them, the Saudi Shariah Laws are oppressive towards women and ironically, many Somali women strive for such laws.
