When you have a strong culture that you share even if someone is not muslim you share so many similarities and practices that you can relate to.

I think Somalis lost much of our culture after the war so when you lose islam you lost 99% of relatability with other Somalis.

A gaal somali is 99% a westernised self hater. But the orthodox of Ethiopia&Eritreans I can respect but I don't delve into their religion and poltics since things gets ugly.

You can make your theories about how somalis are Arabs but at the end of the day when we talk about reality we need to recognise that Arabs view non-muslim Arabs to be closer to them than muslim non-Arabs.

What kind of arabs are answering that’s what we should ask ourself tbh, people like egyptians,jordanians,iraqies,lebanese,syrians and so on all have high % of gaalo, similar to amhara / Oromo muslims they’ll generally identify with their fellow ethnic that’s gaalo rather than the ”outsider” whose muslim. Many west africans got very similar dynamic.

However if you asked Saudis or qataris it would be a very different answer, in my own opinion the people who generally believe most in the ”ummah” tend to be Somalis, South asians and the gulf.
