There's another word that's similar: Cabdow/عبدو used in many countries including Somalia

I honestly don't know one of life mysteries, we should have had somali surnames now if there's an article about a somali and don't look stereotypical how would I know since the person has an Arabic first name and surname. We are losing our somali identity little by little.

Yes but the difference with Somalis we have traditional names of our own, and remember we are the easiest target in the west we can't blend in like everyone else due to our unique features.

Also Islamic Arabic names are fine. But what annoys me are when Somalis choose random Arabic names for their children that have no basis in Islam like Nadia, Sabrina, Amir, etc. It really gives Arab beg and it’s becoming more common than ever for Somalis to have these names

If you’re gonna go for a non religious name keep it in your own culture like what other non Arab Muslims do

Somalis have a phobia of giving their kids ethnic name I can’t think of more then 5 people in my age range with ethnic names and that’s including both genders.
