Somalis say this out of ignorance so I doubt they will face repercussions in the hereafter for this however this shows the importance of speaking Arabic and understanding the grammar that comes with it. If this video isn’t proof Somalia needs complete and absolute arabization idk what is

says abdi means my slave and the prophet saw prohibited anyone from calling a slave abdi yet somalis use it as a name. I knew Abdi meant my slave and we don’t mean it that way but I’m still embarrassed @Abdisamad @AbdiFreedom :liberaltears:

I disagree. When somalis name their son Abdi- their intention is that their son is slave of Allaah swt. Everything is niyaat!

We need to bann Arabic names in Somalia inshallah the only way we can stop this
And how are you going to do that when we’ve had mostly Arabic names for centuries? Who you to ban our names we’ve had for hundreds of years?! Many of our grandfathers were called Ahmed, Mohammed, Ali, Hussein and the list goes on!

I wish we had traditional surnames and first names in that way we can identify who is somali and who isn't why don't i often see the surnames jama, moalim, samatar, hersi, elmi shire or first names like Guled, Libyan? it would counter any islamaphobe comments from these weird ajanabis as they won't know the individual religion due to authentic names.
Why did somali parents just start naming all kids arabic names and droped somali.

Mucallim is Arabic, that's not how you avoid islamaphobia, you should take pride in having names of the sahabah or prophets or any islamic name

I honestly don't know one of life mysteries, we should have had somali surnames now if there's an article about a somali and don't look stereotypical how would I know since the person has an Arabic first name and surname. We are losing our somali identity little by little.

I actually love islamic names but I am talking about how to identify a somali and sadly you will come across a few Somali criminals and I know you wouldn't want to see a "Mohamed" or a "Abdul" doing the crime with islamic names.

they say this as if every other Muslim country doesn't have a bunch of their children named arabic names, these guys are so anti arab they dont want arabic anymore

Abdi is normally a nickname is it not? All the people I’ve ever met with that name had a name of Allah swt attached to it. Like Abdishakur, Abdirahman, Abdiqani etc

Also Islamic Arabic names are fine. But what annoys me are when Somalis choose random Arabic names for their children that have no basis in Islam like Nadia, Sabrina, Amir, etc. It really gives Arab beg and it’s becoming more common than ever for Somalis to have these names

If you’re gonna go for a non religious name keep it in your own culture like what other non Arab Muslims do

Somalis have a phobia of giving their kids ethnic name 😂 I can’t think of more then 5 people in my age range with ethnic names and that’s including both genders.
