Arab and Somali tribes on T-Y16897

Actually, that's around when the camel seems to have been introduced. Camels mostly appear in rock-art across Somaliweyn after around the 2kya mark from what I recall, and the OSA loan fits well with this as well. As for the Carab Saalax they arrived about 200 or so years ago:
What do you think about the theory that says the introduction of camel caused the proto Somalis to venture out north from their southern base. This explains why af maxaa tiri is fairly homogenized in the north/west while you can still see a lot of diversity in Somali language in the south. If this theory is to be believed, then this migration to the north by Somalis would have occurred around 300BC or even further. I say 300BC because this is around the time the rendille language starts to diverge to become its own language. This is also around the time they migrated further south, while other somaliod group were going north and this group later became after maxaa tiri speakers that dominate Somaliwayn today. If this is true, then the camel would have been introduced around 2200 YA mark but this all is speculation of course.
