The irony in someone saying that she only fasted for weight lose benefits and then crying about fasting being non spiritual.

As the jews say. If you do not want to do anything, any excuse will do.

Some parents just push the deen on their kids with the fear game, of if you don't you'll go to hell; usually the parents with little Islamic knowledge do this. This can push them further away as they grow up not knowing the purpose to things in Islam.
It starts off with who the person socializes with, then goes on to joining group/ taking classes that promote agnostic/athiestic beliefs eg. Marxism groups, feminism groups, Philosophy classes, Gender Studies, Social sciences etc..
Make sure she stays away from the mentioned groups above as well as her being more around practicing muslims. But most importantly to have a full understanding of why she is muslim and her purpose in life.
Yeah poignantly having burka clad ladies to symbolise Islam !!! How very progressive... makes any liberal woman run away then curiously read about it, even Christianity preaches about love and forgiveness of sin but Islam has a tendency of constantly talking about death, and how this life is useless etc... it's very emo compared to Christianity.

Lol at love and forgiveness. From a religion that says adam and eve sin's is so great and so grave that the lord had to sacrifice his only 'son' to redeem and remove this curse from the human race. And if you do not accept the lord jesus christ as your saviour this dark stain which i personally am not responsible for will condemn me to eternal damnation.

Kinda like i am to be blamed for my neighbour murdering his friend. Seriously do not ever compare christianity to our blessed deen.

She's a philosophy, gender studies, feminism, social sciences, Junkie. So it's too late to direct her away from these drugs.

She has a tendency to answer questions with questions. Scary stuff really. Intellectually intimidating.

Simodi

Chilling in Quljeed
Greetings folks,

I have a friend who has deliberately chosen to not fast this month because she feels like fasting is a cultural-phenomena instead of it being a religious-phenomena.

When i asked her why she's not fasting? She replied that she's been doing it her whole life simply because she was raised to do it, and the taught of never doing it never occurred to her because it was so blasphemous, but now that she's grown she's decided that it is inauthentic for her to do it simply because she's afraid to go against the grain and not do it.

More exactly, she said that she feels the activity of fasting has no higher spiritual meaning for her. It has become, for her, a mindless physical activity that's more like dieting. In fact, she admitted that for the past few years, the main reason why she fasted was because she taught that it would save her money and help her lose some weight.

It seems that she's having a spiritual crisis and is on her way to being an agnostic.
Any advice of how to help her would be appreciated.
Please don't quote hadiths or quran verses, when i tried to do that, she literally said that her main problem isn't with the religion itself, but it is with the disconnection between how the deen says we "should" live and be connected to Allah, and the reality of life wherein most people care more about money, work, reputation, status, culture, than they do about deen. Most people say religious stuff, using the quran and hadith, but they don't really practice it.

In short, she is becoming more and more disillusion with religious people and with her own pretense of being spiritually engaged. Advice?

Honestly, she should stop looking at what religious people are doing or aren't doing and focus on her relationship between her and Allah. If people have become materialistic and spirituality dead, that's a problem for them. At the end of the day, she will only be accountable for herself so stop thinking about other people. I find her perspective on the world to be extremely shallow. You will find many types of people doing many different things, why use that as your measuring stick?

Secondly, she needs to go back to the basics. We fast because Allah commanded us to. It's as simple as that. We are here to worship Him and if she's deliberately stopping then that means she is deliberately disobeying Him. Tell her to repair her relationship with Allah. To pray her five prayers, to read the Qur'an and to persevere in this quest as it won't be easy. She needs to learn about Her creator, the primary source being the Qur'an. It will help to learn about the attributes and names of Allah. There are many lectures on that on YouTube. She's lost the spiritual connection because she has strayed from her Lord but He is always Near and she just has to take that first step in getting closer to Him.

Finally, remind her that being Muslim is not about shutting yourself away in a Masjid forever. Rather, it is actually about living in the dunya but making sure that your heart is connected to Allah so whatever you do, you do it with Allah in mind. This means you stay away from the haram and enjoy the halal. The best example of being a Muslim is of course, the Prophet Muhammad pbuh. Advise her to learn about his life and how he taught us to be in this world.
Hope this helps to rebuild her spirituality and connection with Allah.

Then I'd say you stay far from her and others subscribed to that stuff. I know a couple Somali girls that are just like that.:ohlord:
Somali girls seem to be going down those paths the most compared to other Muslim groups.
How do you stand being friends with such types?:ohhhdamn:

there is nothing intimidating about them. pass them over to me and i will give her ahmed deedat treatment.

We need some diversity in the Somali community so they can be way more tolerant.

Leave her be with her godless ways. If she discovers another religion, leave her be again.
