To be fair to the people who named Haplogroups, there are waaay too many Haplogroups and subclades out there to use words. Letters and numbers was a good bet. But I often wonder about the lives of the dudes on these subclades and their real names. I really wish humans had discovered writing around when we discovered fire and that virtually all paleolithic cultures had some form of writing, even proto-writing like pictograms and logograms. Think of how many inscriptions, carvings and perhaps even preserved long texts we would find today and how much we'd know. We'd know what cultural horizons like the Natufians, Iberomaurusians, Yamnaya and Nok actually called themselves and so much more. But now we just have to get by with ancient DNA, archaeology, comparative linguistics and cultural anthropology which are, when put together, incredibly illuminating but a nigga can't help but feel greedy for more.
