Form an union with Ethiopia. It's is of importance to form a union thanks to globalization. Somalia rep is ruined I guarantee you after 20 years our rep will somehow stay the same. That's why I propose for the fact that Somalia should unite with Ethiopia. This would make it seem like Somalia after 20 years *chose* to join Ethiopia, whereas let's say if Somalia joins Ethiopia today. Some would think this would be out of Ethiopian force or to evade the bad reputation Somalia holds now.

Pro's
A bigger stronger country
More history to be proud of
More Cushites united under 1 belt
More Somalis under 1 administration
Bigger economy to tap from
Better individual status and respect in the world
Boasting the Nile starting in your country
Being part of country where prophet (saw) fled too.
Country which tolerates Islam and Christianity.

Con's
Bigger population

Ethiopia is a authoritarian state. If Somalis wanted dictatorship they wouldn't have fought against Siad Bare, so joining Ethiopia would make zero sense.

Do we get a say in a country like that?

In a democracy the majority habesha and wannabe habesha oromo would suppress us.

In a dictatorship it's likely it won't be us on charge unless we violently upheld it.

Not worth the stress.

However we could always build a union like the EU for the Horn once we get our shit together.

No, just NO. I, and many here, had family die in the Ogaden war and the scars are still fresh, so I doubt that anyone will want a union with Aidstopia and their abnormally high HIV/AIDS levels. Also, why should we unite with them? We share only a history if animosity with one another and apart from being from cushtic origins, our cultures, ethnicity and languages are different- I don't care is the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) fled their or not, at the end the muslims were told to move to somalia or the arab states or be executed or forcefully convereted, why would they suddenly accept a large muslim population that hates them and already has a terrorost problem.

We should instead build our nation ourselves, we can easily make a killing off manipulating the world trade, look at the gulf of Aden- a few supply and repair depos and some hotels/resort here and there, with high prices and we're set. Plus the oil... THE OIL.

Tldr; no reason to join with them.

As a socialist, what do you think of the EU and what do you think of regional unions?

I have no problem with regional unions, anything to avoid war and conflict is good. However, large-scale unions can be manipulated to benefit international corporations, but overall they are a good thing. Only crypto-fascists and right-wing zealots truly hate the EU. The Left-wing is just sceptical of the lack of democracy and oversight when it comes to some EU institutions.

I wish we had Rwanda as neighbors, they would be the greatest template to use. Ethiopia my ass. U can get away with anything there, ppl live segregated even in one city, there is nothing to be proud of. It's a ticking time bomb, just waiting for the RIGHT OPPORTUNITY. It's a shame we use ethiopia model and should be very close to Rwanda in terms of reconciliation.
