A fight breaks out between xaliimos (jarerwyne) vs madoow-Mareykan

True. If you see a standalone jrweyne clan then by definition they cannot be former slaves, because in Somali culture former slaves take the name of the clan that used to own them.

Their are actually former slave shiidle subclans that used to belong to shiidle, but the true shiidle were never slaves

Do they just take the name? Or do they also identify themselves with the clan and accepted by the 'asal' Somalis of the clan, as part of them?

Take the name and form a non-asal subclan.

Somalis weren’t great slave holders like Swahili’s, so having a client subclan was always viewed as better than owning slaves.

You better hope I don't fail art school warya.
How about you just become a Qabilist and let go of the nationalism like most have done on here. :dabcasar:

That's the eventual route for hardcore nationalists (fascists). I assure you many have you been just like you.

The thing is I barley think of my clan and tbh don't care that much. If anything I'd be a Djiboutian nationalist aiming to assimilate afar into ciise and create a northern state that stretches from afar Eritrea to somaliland.

If I am not aiming to unite all Somalis then I'll be aiming to unite all Kushites in general. The way I think is that I always envision the horn of Africa becoming a global power and clan mentality doesn't get me that future so clans just don't work for me.

How do you know this? What book did you read. Unfortunately the older gen in my fam can’t be asked to differentiate between them.
Children of Ham by Fred Morton, Sooyaalka Taariikhda Jubooyinka, and what I’ve gleaned from travels and speaking to people.

CadCads are somalized, I know intermarriage happens between the northern reer shabelle clans because they’re somalized too. It’s a clan by clan thing honestly.
Aren't bantus in northern Somalia incorporated into northern clans?

The plight of the Gabooye is heavily disregarded. View attachment 284570
Somali bantus became part of their former owners in the north, and in the south they became their own clans, but still some southern clans mixed with them. But Gabooye are considered untouchable people, marrying into one of them is much worse than marrying bantu or any other discriminated ppl

No Bantus are only on the juba, jweyne in the north (shabelle) aren’t Bantu.

Are you distinguishing between jrweyne and bantu?
Yes. Not all jweyne are bantu, many gabooye actually pretend to be jweyne in some regions, plus makaane being omotic, plus the fact that Bantu is a linguistic category, not a race.

Tunni somalis in Barawe who speak Swahili are more “bantu” linguistically than Maxaa speaking reer shabelle.
