I find the analyses in this thread so absurdly simplistic and laughable....
Clans didn't destroy the country you fools, individuals did! Individuals who were manipulating clan sentiment, along with other emotions such as greed, for their own benefit. We should be talking about those individuals instead, asking ourselves what methods did they use to manipulate us, and how can we guard ourselves from further manipulation. We as Somalis must liberate our minds from the deep-rooted virus called tribalism. And we must realize that we are constantly manipulated by charlatans who have mastered clan sentiments....

No dictator can imprison a population forever.
Siyad Barre's mismanagement and incompetence destroyed Somalia.
"Marehan (Siad Barre's clan), Ogaden (the clan of Siad Barre's mother), and Dhulbahante (the clan of Siad Barre son-in-law Colonel Ahmad Sulaymaan Abdullah, who headed the NSS). These were the three clans whose members formed the government's inner circle. Later, the president Siad Barre incited and inflamed clan rivalries to divert the attention of the public away from his increasingly unpopular regime. By the time his regime collapsed the Somali society began to witness an unrepresented outbreak of inter- and intra- clan conflicts"
He tried to end clanism and that succeeded in the beginning but the man knew nothing of administration, economics, or world politics. He was just an another strongman dictator in the end and fell back on his own clan associations. He and his goons set the scene for all the violence that followed his rule.

To be honestly, headless tribes destroyed Somalia who think they educated and know almost everything while they backward. Let me list their names.
(1) Omar Mohamoud Majeerteen (SSDF) they came with Amhara
(2) Sacad, Habargidir lead by Aideed
Isaq barg'o they fought for their disconnected Jaad.
NB: They have a right to fight and get their rights equal to others but why they don't bring any change still beside Qowdhan bit improved and Puntlandese.
