Project ended up costing around 50M USD from what I can find with alot of help from Chinese. At first USSR was helping with project but guessing war with ethiopa and fractured relations they pulled out . The project was initially conceptualized in early 60's with President Aden and PM Sharmake. The project had alot of issues meeting goals due to river flow shortages some years. This is another reason bardheere dam was so critical to ensure reliable irrigation and water through reservoir

Couldn't find any images of the dam so if you guys have it please share . At one time project had 415 chinese staff on site

Some talks of potentially revivivng back in 2015 govt asking for 28M. Dam provided water and electricty so double win for somalia. All these projects have quick pay back period due providing power and food

Sugar project struggled to meet targets due to irragation which is another reason bardheere dam was needed. Labor force not sure if was due to pay and work type or just shortage of people. Finally issues clearing land due to parts shortages and fuel

Below link shows projects funded and requested between 1985-1990. Billions requested and almost all went to south. Govt probably just looking at return on investment and most impact... But recipe for disaster in somalia when whole north region and clans are ignored. Not sure what could have been done as country was poor but see why somaliland felt betrayed and probably puntland as well

Final project kismayo port: port has long history due to being natural harbor wont do history on it.

Immediately upon achieving independence, the government approached the United States for assistance to finance the construction of a new deep water port in Kismayo. The United States Agency for International Development (. USAID ) agreed to the project, and the construction of the port which was began in 1964 was completed in 1967.

Due to the unfavourable technical conditions existing in Somalia which could not suit the design of the port structure C hollow bridge supported by concrete and timber piles ) and as a result of poor maintenance, the port had suffered considerable damages. The financial input that was needed to rehabilitate the port which included a major component of foreign exchange, was beyond the economic ability of the Somali government, and the United States Government again generously accepted to remedy the damages, with a total sum of US$ 42 millions which is more than the original project cost by 320%. The rehabilitation work was started in 1985

Big focus of the country was jubbaland and goal was to make it agricultural powerhouse. 600M+ in projects were planned and executed in the area and having port was key to vision of the region.

The whole region is enough to feed Somalia, but so much water goes to waste.

Theres so many streams and seasonal rivers that run from the hills in Gedo and SW into the Jubba. Resources need to be better handled. The whole Shabeela valley is irrigated and just needs to be fixed up but the Shabeela is more or less doesn't flow all year round or dries up sometimes. The Jubba Valley has amazing potential from electricity to food production. Somalis need to give up on being nomads and start ranches and farms yields would be much better and people could get educated.

The port of Kismayo also has so much more potential its already a natural harbor just needs to be built to its full potential. Rice and sugar production in the Lower Jubba and Vegetables and Wheat in Gedo inshallah we will be able to build all these projects soon, people shouldn't be starving every year for no reason.

The irrigation potential is amazing,The successful implementation of these plans will require sustained commitment and collaboration from both the government and development partners and locals. Plus a long coast and boarder two countries there's so much to be done.

Your kind is the reason why the Baardheere Dam project failed. Siad barre displaced local Ogadens to try & build the dam. These projects cannot be a success if many factors are not covered like land loss reimbursement for the owners.
Local ogadens kulaha what nonsense. You're still peddling lies msb displaced ogaden from bardera while I brought receipts from 1931 showing I'm majority double the number of ogaden. :pachah1:
