This is an Afar man, but I believe there were Somali men that did/do the same, and that's where those dreads come from.

This looks better than those little plaits.

Yeah exactly if you do this to your hair and leave it, dreads will form. It’s not natural dreads but smaller and more neater.

On us 4 type hair textures braids & dreads look best. It gets annoying to have an Afro in the winter months & too much of a pain to curl it. Braids/dreads kills 2 birds with 1 stone if you want nice long hair that's easy to manage and put a hood over when its cold out.

If my hair wasn't in braids at this moment while I was outside this one day I would've been a soaking mess anyone reading this who has tight curls knows how long your hair stays wet when you have an 'fro... Upwards of an hour of having cold droplets of water going down your face lol. Not fun
