I understand what you saying and where you're coming from but there's important element you're forgetting is that not that many nomads were rich in livestock so the meat that was cooked was first reserved to men who usually do the hard work like looking after the herds taking long jocking in the hot sun and protecting the family household and the livestock with that said the men usually don't jump in and finish the meal they leave some for the women to eat so nothing is wasted but nowadays when most somalis are urbanized and the abundance of meat and food that culture is already now is dead.
Saxib,
I don't want to make it a male vs women argument, but if you want to argue that Reer magaal men did more work then women, you'd be right.
However, life for a nomad woman was rough, they did all the child rearing, cooking, cleaning, they built the areesh (Somali house) which in most societies would be a man's job and were in charge of all the other livestock apart from the camel, which would was the man's job. Oh and on top of that, the women also had to deal with the physical difficulties that comes with motherhood, pregnancy, breastfeeding along with all their responsibilities.
I've read countless of historical books about the traditional Somali nomadic life and this point usually comes up:
In endurance the women of the Somal are far superior to their lords: at home they are engaged all day in domestic affairs, and tending the cattle.. if necessary, to make them; to pitch the hut, to bring water and firewood, and to cook.

There is also a documentary that was recorded in the 50s that mentions this when talking about life in the meey.
There is no denying that men worked hard as well, but to suggest that Reer meey women had an easier life is a lie. My own ayeeyo talks about the hardships women faced. Men gave women the scraps because they could. It was a man's world. My ayeeyo even said that women weren't even allowed to drink tea, why? Because men could discourage it and drink it for themselves.
