Xalimo Says Somali Culture Is Oppresive Because Women Bring Guests Water To Clean Up With After Eating

No dictator can imprison a population forever.
Farodaq. I did this as well for my parents. Some Somali women want to be oppressed so badly, i blame these feminist classes at university and sometimes high school. They really drink the koolaid. I took a feminism course in my last year of undergrad because it fit my schedule, i was the only guy in class and the bs I had to nod along with to get my A was astounding. Some of these women believed every word. Actually contributing the household is oppressive it seems.

Wth? Men used to bring them too back home I remember during a meher ceremony for my cousin I had to bring the water and help replenish the guests drinks. These feminists are nuts :jcoleno:

I used to bring the farodhaq for my mom’s guests. Younger people don’t that tho. My guests just go to the washroom to wash their hands.

She's right, Many Somali girls are conditioned to act like "servants" towards men, while the brothers don't do these same kind of chores. The brothers just sit there and relax.

I remember it was so bad in some households that the girls and women would cook food, and only eat after the men ate. Of course the men got the biggest pieces of meat.

I think she's projecting onto the rest of us since her household received more male guests on average. There is misogyny present in our culture but this custom got nothing to do with it. Most Somali households I know just use silverware anyways.

I only saw this done in Somalia. People do that in the diaspora? I refused to wash my hands in that stainless steel bowl. People used the same water to clean their fingers full of suugo. Get the heck out of here. You also require a lot more water than what was in there.

As it should be. Why you think the lions is the most respected animal in the world. Xalimos could learn a lot from lioness

going above and beyond for ur guest is wonderful, I love serving them tea and having a decent conversation after :)

As long as people don't make their female relatives serve male guests when there are men at home, that's not good practise. Women should serve women, men should serve men.

If it's your parents and they have mixed-gender guests, the youngest person at home can be the 'waiter'.
but women have small hands and can serve quicker …

I've only done that less than a handful of times the most bothersome thing for me was making tea when I wasn't a tea drinker myself and didnt know the first thing. They were always terrible too, the guests would complain it's cold, too sugary, not enough sugar, no ginger or hayl etc but still I was kept in that position no matter what ugh. We need to normalise a mi casa su casa tradition where if you want something go in the kitchen and make it yourself.
