Do you guys have financial aid over in the UK? I'm only in community college but because of my family's income I get money from the government that I use to buy books, materials, and public bus tickets since my college is out of town. Also the free school lunch thing, we have a free/reduced fee school lunch program for children from low-income households from elementary to high school, what do you guys have?

Labour supported the old-school Somali sailors:

"Early Somali seamen formed part of the socialist working class movement of the time. Poor living and working conditions were common to the lives of the early seamen and the Labour party became the natural home for them. At a time when the Labour party was seen as the party for the working class these seamen, like so many poor workers, voted Labour."

"Labour had many who fought for the early British Somali community, like James Callaghan in 1956. The MP for Cardiff South-east challenged the then Tory minister Iain Macleod in the House over the increase in unemployment of Somali seamen in Cardiff."

@Reign abaayo, you're a proud Hawiye unionist right?

What if I told you that the Tories rarely cared/took interest about the Somali community and are instead trying to sow the seeds of division by noting slanders as a distinct entity?:lolbron:

"The country comprises both Somaliland in the north and Somalia proper and is making huge strides in shaking off its dated image as a land of pirates and warlords"

"Somalis and Somalilanders are a large community in the UK, accounting for up to 150,000 people – or, to put it another way, more than two full parliamentary constituencies."

Well, I've studied for a Nursing course which I finished last year, it was completely free I received a bursary which was a couple of thousands of pounds a year and a student grant which was means tested. I didn't take out any loans because I was living at home so my living expenses were low.
Then you have non-health care related courses where you have to pay £9000 a year to study at university, but this doesn't come from your pockets but you apply for a tuition fee loans which covers all your university tuition fees for the three years that you are studying. Anyone could get tuition fee loans rich or poor. You only have to pay it back when you earn over a certain amount a year after completing your course and there isn't a pressure to pay it back because it's different to bank loans for e.g, the loans gets forgiven after 30 years if you haven't managed to pay it all back.
Also, depending on family income, you can take out a maintenance loan to cover your living expenses this is means tested which could be a couple of thousands of pounds a year. Then you automatically get a maintenance grant, but your family earnings will be taken into consideration so if your family are low earners you get the max amount of grants.
But like I said, any health-related courses are free so there's no need to pay for tuition fees.
