Why is she lying about our culture?

There isn't a unified centralized culture. The Somali experience varies from person to person (depending on their background, region, and personal circumstances) and that is pretty amazing. But that doesn't invalidate her experiences, like with any patriarchal society there is bound to be widespread misogyny.

Some of the minorities have a different view on these things.. She’s benadiri (cadcad). The mobility and participation in public life of their women was limited pre-war and still is (from what I’ve heard). There’s a famous benadiri makeup artist called Maryan Ahmedey that discusses this.

There absolutely is. Ethnic somalis do not have this culture.

I don't like the idea of cad cads speaking for us , they have a different daqan and I'd hate to see their Asian culture of men being overly involved in women's business associated with us.

This is considered ceeb and effeminate in *ethnic* Somali culture.

Nothing incorrect was said. I only dislike the fact that she is trying to garner sympathy from these gaalo for monetary gain. You can tell she is performing an act.

Patriarchal iyo waxaas but the main thing here is did you grow up in a urban household. If you live in baadiyo then of course youre not going to go to school you have your own familial role to fill just like the men who herd the xoolo. But if you live in a city or close to a city youre going to have the chance to educate and if so you can go to school.

My hooyo grew up in kismaayo outskirts and passed school and then travelled to xamar for university. Unfortunately dagaalki broke out at that point but she was on road to be a doctor. Women absolutely had chance to school and she has not said why exactly her mother couldnt except that she is assuming

I find it annoying that Somalis get a platform and all of a sudden start venting about their life :dead:

It doesn't feel natural because they all do it the same way. I think their producers and agents tell them to do this to get pity points.
