Why doesn't Somaliland claim it's the successer of Somali republic, like Taiwan?

This would give somaliland more international trade access and legitimacy.
Isaaqs have the control of 48 seats in Somalia's parliament under Mahe Dir umbrella. They can utilize this power

Because they’re been lead by men with a sum of 18IQ. Ethiopia won’t recognize them, Djibouti won’t because they don’t want to be overshadowed, and not will Somalia. They might as well say they’re the true Somali government and all the embassies and investment goes to Hargeisa. These idiots isolated themselves for 30 years and pay millions just to be talked about by white men. You know how much they lobbied the British? They could’ve built a modern army to invade Mogadishu and declare independence 🤦‍♂️

This would be based.

Also, I would love to see Somaliland and Puntland form a union as the legitimate Somali government and declare the one in Mogadishu as a pretender government.

We’re already famous for screaming shegaato everywhere so why not do it on the world stage.

:dead:

This would have been a better option for SL than unilaterally declaring independence after Somalia collapsed into anarchy. Imagine Hargeisa as the capital of the Somali Republic and the Somali government ruling not just all of former British Somaliland but also the most peaceful and tribally homogeneous state in Somalia aka Puntland. Such a central government would be internationally recognised and would have access to so much money. Mogadishu too could have been saved much earlier since it wouldn't have been burdened by having the capital status. Do you agree @IPushFatKids

Interesting view, I’ve never really thought of it that way. It would have been more exciting if they managed to get the northeast(puntland) on board, making the south irrelevant. But I doubt it will ever happen, Somalis are to short sighted and only focus on short term benefits.

Just claiming it won’t work, they need the parliament, MPs and other Gov bodies to be in SL

This thread reminds me of the Rudyard kipling poem the white man's burden.

Essentially you guys are saying us isaaq are undoubtedly the superior clan when it comes to governance and dhaqan and that we should have accepted our paternal burden back in 91 and not abandoned you all to the care of hawiye/darod

I think they are saying you are inept.

people are saying exactly the opposite-

very silly move- but not just you-
You declared independence and took a different approach, puntland invested so much time and energy in Mogadishu project that in hindsight questions are being asked whether it would have been better to declare Mogadishu as void and start over in puntland as the official representative of the Somali people and convince Somalis in this project rather than full focus on Mogadishu..

If thats what they're saying then the people in this thread are even dumber than the people they're criticising.

Its painfully obvious why somaliland didn't try to succeed the somali republic. But just in case you missed it I'll spell it out for you both.

Theres no point in shifting captials and hogging the presidency. If you share a country with xoolo then the end result wont be a country. It'll just be a farm, which is exactly what everything from puntland in the north to jubbaland in the south is.

agreed.

The biggest gripe I’ve had about the landers that isn’t often expressed is I think they could have played a key role in stabilising and leading Somalia instead of UDI. There were certainly a lot of innovative solutions that could have been explored.

you defo new to somali politics, those "Somaliland MPs in Xamar" have nothing todo with the Republic of Somaliland and were all appointed by Villa Somalila and Farmaajo to belittle and tarnish Somaliland's Claim of Independence to the World.

only it didn't work because the IC knows they don't have anything todo with the Republic but Somalia continues with this charade and filling the pockets of political merceneraries.

No, we offered assistance many times but the Arta Conference in 2001 changed all that.

We are independent already, Somalia has no power in Somaliland stop living in fantasy accept it and move on. we won't relinquish any authority or give an inch and neither will you so talks are pointless..

Unfortunately, therefore lack of any wisdom
That's essentially what folks here are suggesting SL should have done in 1991 instead of declaring independence
You don’t even know why the north declared independence it did so because
the Snm initially refused to accept the legitimacy of the provisional government that the Usc had established but in march 1991 the SNM's former leader Ahmed Silaanyo proposed a power sharing framework between the SNM and usc under a new transitional government.
The usc started splitting and the south descended into chaos afterwards the garaad proposed the idea of independence the snm agreed and did so on 18 may its still unrecognised till present time
