Why does every Xalimo seeking attention and fame always recycle this same storyline?

”Women began working to eradicate the practice as early as 1977. In that year, the Somali Women’s Democratic Organization (SWDO) was formed. It became the implementing agency appointed by the now collapsed government of Siad Barre for the abolition of this practice.

To eradicate the dangers and damage caused by this procedure as performed by traditional excisors, the procedure was encouraged to be carried out in a hospital. The government supported an alternative method, which was to prick the clitoris to obtain a drop of blood. It was hoped that this method would eventually replace the more dangerous Type III. However, this strategy did not work as had been hoped and the practice was eventually banned in all government hospitals.

In 1988, the government launched a campaign to eradicate the practice completely on health and religious grounds. The campaign maintained the operation was dangerous to women's health and not called for in the Quran. It was even pointed out that it would not guarantee virginity.

The IWE commenced activities in the mid-1980s against the practice of FGM/FGC. This was included entirely in a general health program called the Family Planning Project. These activities were not very successful, however, because they did not receive money from the government and the government had not passed any legislation outlawing this practice.

SWDO organized a campaign that produced information packets including audio-visuals for women, young people, religious leaders and medical personnel in the local language. It also provided workshops for trainers and held seminars for women and even organized a poetry contest on why the practice was dangerous to women and girls. An international conference was held in Mogadishu in 1989 on "Female Circumcision: Strategies to Bring about Change." The Somali Revolutionary Party, which was in power at that time, gave moral support to the project.

However, once Siad Barre’s Somali Revolutionary Party was overthrown and the country thrown into turmoil in 1991, the technical basis for the campaign was destroyed.”

There would’ve probably been a similar decline in this practise in Somalia if not for the civilwar.. it is what it is.

I'm not sure about this but haven't you noticed dadkeen qarkood copy one another in everything. No originality in thoughts and ideas whether it be business, labis or online content.

I’ve notice this aswell, the question now is how do we promote creativity the deen aspect imo is overrated and doesn’t practically work as well although it’s the most ideal option what other realistic and practical measures can we take to discourage this backwards mentality?

We have a lot of deranged people that like to dig in xaaar and then talk about the xaar the found in there house and sort it in public. While all other people from different countries would just flush it.

It's weird to realize that Egyptians, Sudanis, Ethiopians and Eritreans all have—in recent history—comparable FGM numbers to Somalis yet you pretty much never see one of them rambling about the practice to westerners or writing an English language book about it. Somalis really do like attention...

I think the NGO disease, has unintentionally shaped a culture where airing internal community issues in public has become normalized.

And these idiots believe sharing such harmful information about their country will make them look progressive in western eyes, but it rather the opposite. Sharing in not caring :fittytousand:

I don’t think I’ve seen her even bring up fgm prior to this.

the exploiting of ones own trauma to win a competition is so bizarre but yh ”activism”

My uneducated opinion is we get in touch with our most authentic selves. Not healing from trauma stops people from going on this journey as it can be painful at first. Most aren't even aware of their condition. This journey is unique for everyone.

Creativity should be promoted and praised in childhood. Parents that went through trauma who are also unhealed themselves don't see the value in this.

No, he's right. It makes absolutely no sense to ramble about this to a room full of cadaans (if that is what she is doing) who will do literally nothing about it but use it as ammunition to paint Somalis in a poor light in their cunsuri circles and agendas.

Shine a light on it in Somali circles and partake in activism within the community to put a complete stop to it. But this... it kinda just reads as sympathy farming with foreigners at the expense of your community.
I'm also not saying she did not go through pain. But the way she spoke was so pretentious, it was crazy. At least if you're going to do the trauma dump, say it like you mean it. You feel me? She talks like she's performing.

Not saying she did not go through pain, again, but..

She looks like she held back a laugh before she cried, dawg. This is peak narcissism. And I hate how Somalis are maximizing this lately. We're less people of substance and more of looks and vein shit. Like spewing trauma on the fakest platform, fake crying, giving hug to an cadaan woman who looked like she worked 10 years for UNICEF, trying to make up for harm done by a husband who worked for the Bush administration or something, yet still support the imperialist machine while feeling good rubbing bald headed children in Malawi-- type beat. :mjkkk:

its her war story :drakelaugh:

yeah , crying to cadaans is totally gonna solve the problem ....giving us more stereotypes. If she wanted change, she'd speak in Somali to a Somali audience

its 100% sympathy fishing so she can win - but hey, if she actually wins, I'm not mad :ehh:
More “stereotypes”? Have you been through fgm unfortunately not a stereotype is part of somali tradition that people still follow till this day and needs to be abolished. You’re a siko.

it needs to be spoken about more and more she’s not crying to cadaan she’s speaking to the public. Please research more about the long-term affects of FGM it doesn’t only affect you when your a child but when your an adult aswell.

Tiktok? Are you for real? That's all you could dig up? Not an English language book or a prominent Egyptian, Habesha or what have you rambling about it at a large international event? That's what Somalis do and I don't see these other groups doing that. Though I'm happy to be proven wrong.

It doesn’t matter what platform she’s speaking on in fact that TikTok got more likes and engagement than the somali women on stage. I’ve seen some speeches aswell especially on ted talks that are non-somali. There’s nothing wrong with a Somali women talking about her experience it’s one the most inhumane normalised practices to a vulnerable person that can’t even consent. I don’t think appropriate for you as a man to speak on behalf and input on topics like this. A lot of you think “ahhh she catering to cadaan begging for them for support” but notice some of the comments are Somalis saying their happy that she’s standing up for the girls?

Sorry, walaal, but I've just seen too many types like her being 100% utilized by ajanabis to paint Somalis as savages, barbaric and so on. Believe whatever you wish but 99% of the time that is what this "sharing of her trauma" is going to be used for in the international space; cunsuris painting us in a bad light. Not a single one of these cadaans really cares about her trauma; it's either a liberal circlejerk to feel better about how life is in the west or cunsuris chimping out.

That being said, I have absolutely no issue with her airing her trauma and the stamping out of this, as you say, inhumane practice but, let's be serious and admit that her rambling to a bunch of worthless foreigners (in terms of exacting change in Somaliweyn) is doing nothing along that vein. Nothing at all. She should instead engage in serious activism within the Somali community and leave it at that. That will exact real change for future Somali women.

And on the other NE Africans, you have yet to provide a single source and I have personally never encountered any prolific Egyptian, Sudanese or even Ethiopian examples. Yet their stats are comparable to ours. Again, some rando on Tiktok, even if she had 10 million views, is a joke of an example for you to share.

I'll conclude by saying I do think @novanova is correct and it's the fact that NGOs are so predominant among Somalis ever since the civil war. Crying to westerners about how sad it is to have been refugees or the children of refugees is quite the industry both for women and men.

It’s difficult to shine a light in the Somali community when many believe it’s part of the deen for women to be circumcised and Somalis are very stubborn and have brainwashed young girls in Somalia to view the clitoris as something disgusting and to see fgm as beneficial. I am saying this because when I travelled to Somalia as a teen many of my cousins and aunts would make degrading comments towards me and my sister.
