Yes in 1967 we fought and managed to get a referendum to join somalia but the French government killed the prominent Issa Somali nationalist in a plane crash and barred votes and expelled Ciise. And they also brought in lots of Afars from Ethiopia and Eritrea as the afar were pro French and voted to stay with France.

We managed to get another vote in 1977 but it was for independence instead which gave France more power and maintained bases there. This wouldn't be allowed since Somalia in the Republic and during Siad barre banned foreign military bases In Somalia.
