Why do useless Somalia federal states compare themselves to Somaliland?

They are vastly different

No single federal state or whole of south Somalia can be compared to Somaliland. Not in terms of democracy, stability, security. Not even in terms of population, number of cities. Puntland is closest in all ranks. But even then it is a distant second, but certainly deserves an honourable mention.

Somaliland has existed since 1991, the very beginning of Somalia's civial war. It has many large cities including Hargeisa, the third largest city in the Horn of Africa, second largest Somali city. Hargeisa is larger than all other Somalia's large cities combined (excluding Mogadishu). But Somaliland also has many other cities such as Boorama, Burao, Las Anod, Erigabo, Zeila, Oodweyne, Sheikh, Gabiley, Arabsiyo, Ainaba, Wajaale, Badhan, Dhahar, Ceel Af Weyn etc. Overall it has 5 of the top 10 largest cities in the former Somali Republic.

It has a long track record of democracy and political maturity. It has had many one man one vote elections, including three presidential elections and parliamentary elections. It has an official opposition. Many political parties. Open, televised debates in its lower and upper house. Televised presidential debate.

Can any regional state in South or Central Somalia really compare? This is a genuine question. Is it not indho adeyg to compare themselves to Somaliland.

Somaliland is celebrating 27 years since it re-declared its statehood

According to the World Bank, Puntland outperforms Somaliland on numerous economic indicators such as GDP per capita, access to water and sanitation, literacy rate and general welfare so it's not a poor comparison at all. Somaliland outperforms other regions of Somalia in terms of democratic governance and stability but that doesn't necessarily mean political maturity it means it's maturer than the rest. For example it doesn't have a long track record of democracy, it has a long track record of fledgling democracy due to several unconstitutional extensions by the Somaliland leadership.

So to conclude I don't think other Somali regions try to compare themselves to Somaliland however they learn from Somaliland's experience.

Puntland is way more urbanised than Somaliland. SL has three big cities and hardly any middle sized towns. Puntland has, aside from the big 3 cities, a lot of middle sized towns like Burtinle, Bacaadweyn, Carmo etc. It's a bold statement, but I think Puntland is the most urbanised region of Somalia

Puntland is also far ahead of the rest in tackling the water shortage issues. The fact that camel herders from Somaliland sought refuge in Puntland wells during the recent drought indicates who's leading these efforts.

Somaliland is leading in terms of democratisation but then again, Puntland politics is far more aggressive than SL politics. There was a time Abdullahi Yusuf, Cadde Muuse and Faroole were competing for the presidency at the same time. Three hawks, one spot.

the problem with your comment is everyone can fake economic growth if they are printing out fake currency, puntland cant even afford to pay for its security with its militiamen looting and holding gov buildings hostage due to lack of payment.

if that is the case, why did puntland region of somalia beg to join Somaliland and was refused multiple times?

where are these large cities in puntland? bosaso, garowe? if those are 'large cities' then may Allah have mercy on all of us, those arent even towns let alone cities, villages in Somaliland have a bigger population than garowe the capital of somalia's puntland region

secondly puntland is financially struggling, the only state in Somalia to print out fake currency and soldiers go several months before being paid which is why they often loot and take over government buildings.

lastly here is the governor of somalia's puntland region begging to join Somaliland

to compare puntland to Somaliland is like comparing bosaso to hargeisa, it only serves as a comedic relief to everyone

Somaliland army is only 30 mins away from garowe, puntland capital which is why puntlanders havent lifted a finger to retake the land they lost few months ago

It's a study by the World Bank I don't know why they would fake their results unless they have a Puntland bias. Does the World Bank have a Puntland bias?

The report doesn't reflect your current situation tho that tells me there is more to this report.

Somaliland is most likely a lot more economically more stable, without a doubt.. :manny:

Well this thread backfired :pachah1::pachah1:
Backfired how, Puntland is broke compared to Somaliland.

There is no comparison. It's like comparing the economy of a city with an entire state..

You should dread any future reports that reflects the real situation in Puntland.

Because best believe it will be used to mock you guys :shaq:

What are the mental gymnastics you have to do to say that a globally accredited research facility is wrong while you are right?

Or do you have statistics?

You didn't address anything I stated.

The article you posted like 10 times in several threads is an op-ed piece written by an anti-Faroole opinion maker in an anti-Faroole news website. You just proved that Puntland politics is far more aggressive.
