I see this backwardness in Somalia either locally or diaspora. They actually think their is 'value' to be gained by listening to your accent or god forbid it's even worse in Somaliland who thinks anyone who is 'White' has status and influence.
For Somaliland, this actually stems from the fact they never had a kingdom and didn't know that societies in the old-world had various statuses(merchant, religious, academic, diplomat, peasant, aristocrats, royalty). So I don't blame their people today worshipping any white, they lack Isimo who can 'control' them to not embarass their people, since they themselves have no real 'old world w'isdom.
But I've seen another disturbing trend developing in Somalia whether local or diaspora, wasting their time to evaluate people accents, accents isn't knowledge. Their are many people who have well refined accents and wears suits who we call 'empty suits' and their is more intelligence at times that you can gain from a homeless person.
Stop wasting your valuable limited time on earth evaluating people accent, and actually 'evaluate' the contents of what their saying so you can either 'grow' your knowledge or at least gain a different perspective to develop your 'lateral' thinking.
