Some of Somali women wear niqab to do things that they wouldn't have done it if they weren't wearing it. So don't be surprised
They wear the niqab to either shield their bleached faces from the sun, to roam around the city in incognito to avoid running into someone they know, to protect their faces from the siigo in cities like Hargeisa or Burco with crazy winds or/and to deter at least 40% of the creepy dudes that may try to hit on them.
It's more of a tool, not fashion statement. There are a minority that wear it for religious reasons tho.
