even though they are both Semitic the name as far back as history was specially confined to what we call Canaan or Cananites. These Canaan have many names like Amalek. Moab. Edomites. i hope this clarifies but also keep in mind the term was coined by German scholars in the late 1700s and charlton coon included Arabs by the late 1890s. So the Jews adopted for themselves. Coon added the wider Arabs and assyrians akkadians and Sumerian’s etc.
