Why are Somalis who never been in the Middle East so obsessed with Arabs?

I don't understand why there's so many Somalis who are obsessed with Arabs. Trying to act like them, dress like them, etc. When they never even been to the Middle East? I would understand it if you born in and grew up in the Carabta, so you'd have this type of connection with them.....but there are Somalis who were born and raised in Canada, America, UK, etc and never stepped foot in an Arab country and yet have this obsession with them and feel like Arabs are their brothers. I find this odd. They're such begs. I was born in Saudi Arabia, my father worked there for 40 years so I spent a lot my childhood in the Middle East , but I don't give a shit about Arabs. So why do they care?

There is also the other type who hate Arabs and are willing to change their name because it's an Arabic name yet they never been to an Arab country

That doesn't make sense. One had choice, the other didn't.


Your parents/guardian chose your name. This is not choice.

Grown adults wanting to act like Arabs have a choice.

It goes either way. You either have this extremely positive obsession for Arabs, or an extremely negative one.
Both are unwarranted and make little to no sense for the demographic we are. Somalis in general have always been neutral about Arabs in terms of general opinion. They're just people that live in a bunch of countries not far from us. These diaspora kids either think they're straight up Arab or they hate them because they think they enslaved us or something idiotic like that. These days you HAVE to have an opinion on them, and I don't get where this is coming from. Can't you just be indifferent about a group? Especially one as large as this.

No, that's subjective. What about if they want a Somali name?

Let's not drag this. I would only agree with Somali changing their name: a) they left the religion and have a religious name b) if they want a Somali name because of their identity.

That's my point. For the record, I don't hate Arabs.

I won't argue with you my point is there are people who hate Arabs are as bad as Arabs I brought you up as an example since I thought you were one of them
