Why are Somali Canadians so poor?

Compared to the ones in America? Everytime I go to Toronto I just see somalis living in those ugly apartment blocks that smell weird. Very few have houses and most work low paying minimal jobs like airport baggage and taxi. I never see any Somali or hell any black person working downtown at the financial center or wearing a suit and tie on the subway. Why are y’all so poor? Here in Columbus you see Somalis that are nurses, engineers that own houses with new cars and take a vacation every year. People in Canada, at least in Toronto are faqiiry

Housing here (GTA, where most Somalis live) is absolute dog shiit. It's very focking expensive, and is (IMO) intended for others who are on the more affluent side of the economy (lawyers, house brokers, etc). The price for an average mid-sized house is, and I kid you not, $750,000-$1,000,000!!! Even rent is expensive, as the average utility cost of a town-house is about $2,200 per month. Most Somalis can only dream about affording to pay off such expenses, and as a result, end up living in the local, slummy apartments that smells weird.

Most Somalis in Canada move into the rural areas/cities of southern/northern Ontario such as London, Scarborough (it's expensive now), Kitchener, etc. in order to live somewhat of a opulent lifestyle, similar to their brothers in America. Some don't (like myself), and simply just torment themselves by sticking around the GTA area.

As a Canadian, I agree with you 100% and I’m glad that you see what I see.

Expensive country, low wages and a weak dollar (compared to the US) are some reasons why Canada is the way it is. It’s expensive in every single way, from houses, taxes, car insurance, food, gas, cell phone bills etc.

Canada is good if you’re low income and need social assistance but if you’re educated, you’re 100% better off working in the states as you’ll have a higher quality of living. Canada rewards mediocrity. There’s no innovation and we’re behind on the world stage when it comes to jobs and competition. Our economy is now being propped up by the Real Estate industry, because there’s no other way to make money in Canada. This is why houses are unaffordable. Canadians see homes as investments instead of a place to live. And the government doesn’t care because they’re dependent on the real estate industry. Wa meel gaajo ah, but many won’t admit it and will argue with you about that.

Anyways I could go on and on about this topic, but I’ll leave it here for now.

Your post is sadly outdated in 2021. Most detached homes in Ontario with the exception of small tuulos are a million dollars. Kitchener is expensive now, along with London and even Windsor is becoming unaffordable. Canada is a large country with natural resources (hello, lumber?) yet we’re seeing a home shortage because it’s intentional. The Greenbelt can be developed but no politician wants to touch that because they get donations from developers and construction companies, who have a vested interest in this man made crisis.

Speaking of Syrian, I heard about a Somali dude who had 3 Syrian wives from Syria. Canada is actually good place that's way safer than USA for shootings and all. Canada has amazing benefits and gives cheap housing for families.
